A NOTE TO OUR FAMILIES
Families and Students,
We have come to the time of year when our students get the chance to show how much they have learned and grown! It is officially testing season! This can be a stressful time for students (and teachers). Talking to your child about doing their best and that it is important to take the test seriously is one thing that you can do to help your child. Making sure that they are at school when they are not sick will allow them to get the final reviews and be able to take the tests with their class. It is also important that students know that there will be things on the tests that may be challenging, and they should not get discouraged or give up. As long as they are doing the best that they can, we will all be proud of them.
I want to invite all of you to come join us for our Title 1 Family Activity Night! Coming up on Wednesday, March 19th from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. There will be a free hot dog dinner, math and reading activities, a student art show of all of our students' work, and some cute and cuddly farm critters to see! The theme is Down on the Farm so Giddy Up and Get Down to Starr for some fun at the farm! Students need an adult with them to attend, but all family members are welcome and we hope to see you there!
I also wanted to remind you about our school goals this year. One of our goals is to raise our school attendance. In order to meet the state-level requirement, we need to have an overall attendance rate of 95% for the school. Right now, our school attendance rate is 89%. I know that illness was rough last month, but I am hoping that we are all past that and getting healthier. Remember, students with perfect attendance each week get a special treat on Friday, and any student that has perfect attendance for the whole month will get a special dog tag to collect each month. We can't do this without parental help, so any child with perfect monthly attendance is also entered in a drawing to win a Family Fun Basket! Our winners of the Family Game Night baskets were so excited. I hope we have even more students eligible for this month's Family Fun Basket! I know that when we work together, we can get to that 95%!
As always, I am here for you. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. I am deeply proud to serve our students and families, and I look forward to another strong semester of communication, partnership, and growth!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Melissa Jordan
Principal

TBRI: Parent Portal
TBRI (Trust Based Relational Intervention) is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. All RCS schools are using these strategies to better understand and meet the needs of our students. There are wonderful components for parents, as well!
Last month, we focused on Self-worth with our students. Check below for more information about this topic and how you can connect the learning at home!

REMINDERS
A Change in how your child is going home?
Our top three students represented Starr at the District Spelling Bee on January 23rd. They are Abby Waddell (1st), Danika Martin (2nd), and Bethel Ekwealor (3rd). These three are spelling superstars!
COOPERATION
working together to do more than you can do alone
THE FOCUS WORD THIS MONTH IS...
COOPERACION
Trabajar en equipo papa hacer mas de lo que puedes hacer tu solo
***State Attendance Policy***
A new attendance law has been passed by Indiana lawmakers. Our school system is required, BY LAW, to follow the policy. Please make sure your child is at school every day unless they are sick.
