SPRING TERM - 13th FEBRUARY 2025

Message from the Head of School
Well done to 2B for their class assembly last week. It was lovely to see the class working together as a team to share their excellent learning with their families. We look forward to 2P class assembly tomorrow at 2:30pm.
Thank you for your donations to the Rags 2 Riches Clothing Collection. This is a great way to have a clear out and make money for our schools - We raised £108.03 (432.10kg of clothing). The next collection will be 19th May 2025.
Please be aware that Nursery applications for September 2025 entry, closing date is Friday 7th March. (Date of birth 1/9/21 - 31/8/22). For full details and an application eform see our website Admissions page Admissions | Hampton Primary School.
On Thursday 6th March we will be dressing up for World Book day. Please can all children come as a character they like from a book. If they can bring a named copy of that book with them to share with their friends that would be great.
As always the Infant staff team will be dressing up as characters from a particular book. Last year was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I wonder what it will be this year? It is a lesser known book, but we can guarantee that won’t be the case by the end of the day!
All children are going to be participating in the HISN Masked Reader competition to see if they can guess which member of staff is reading each book. We are looking forward to an exciting book filled week in school. These amazing opportunities would not be possible without our great staff team.
We have organised an Author visit which we will share further details very soon. Thank you to HPPA for funding this.
Have a lovely half term break.

Team Earth Year 1
Team Earth have joined the 'Picker Pals' initiative and have been very busy helping to make the school environment look tidy and free from litter. The Year 1 representatives went out with Mrs Davies with a large bag ready to fill with any rubbish they could find. We spent some time on the EYFS playground before heading out to the front of the school where we found even more rubbish that had been blown in by the wind. We then went out onto the KS1 playground and worked as a team to take care of the school grounds. We can't wait to get back out and litter pick soon!
Thank you to Miss Mills, Miss Bentley and Mrs Davies for all the hard work they do with Team Earth.
Internet Safety Assemblies
This week we welcomed OpenView Education in to speak to us about internet safety before we celebrated Internet Safety Day on Tuesday.
In our assembly we met a puppet named Philip who took us on a journey to internet land where we met different characters who felt worried or sad about their experiences on the internet. We discussed how it is important to always use kind words online, remember to keep our personal information private and to always tell a trusted adult when we feel worried or sad. We loved meeting Philip and also learnt an Internet Safety Spell to help us remember how to stay safe online. We have been reminding each other through the week how to stay safe and follow our own SMART rules in school.

Nursery
Another wonderful week exploring space! The children have loved creating alien planets, thinking about if the planet is hot or cold, has mountains or sandy beaches. We have also seen aliens around the Nursery, where the children have been drawing aliens with 6 eyes and 5 legs!
In maths, we have continued our space theme and have been practising counting backwards from 10, ready for your space rockets to blast off into space. There were lots of lovely conversations about numbers this week. We noticed that when you count backwards, the numbers get smaller and when you count forwards, the numbers get bigger.
With Internet Safety Week being held on Tuesday, the children have been thinking about where we find technology and the devices that can have access to the internet, both at home and at school. We noticed that in the classroom, we have a computer and a touch screen interactive whiteboard. At home, the children excitedly spoke about iPads and TV, discussing the things they watch on YouTube and CBeebies. Nursery learnt a very important rule for when they are using the internet: if they are ever unsure about what to do whilst using the internet or their iPad, we should always talk to a grown up about it. We learnt a very catchy song to help us remember: Before you stop and click, you must stop and think, and tell someone.
Lastly, the children wish you a Happy Valentine's Day! We discussed that this is a day to celebrate love and friendship. The children have learnt a song for you all as a Valentine's surprise...we hope you enjoy it.
Reception
Reception have enjoyed another busy week! We have continued using 'Whatever Next' by Jill Murphy as our focus text, building in learning opportunities linked to the story where possible. In addition to this, we have been looking at ways to stay safe online as part of Safer Internet Day. Our safer internet mascot Smartie the Penguin has been reminding the children to stop, think and tell an adult if they see anything they're not sure about online. The children also enjoyed a memorable and interactive puppet-led assembly to reinforce these messages.
In phonics, we have introduced four new digraphs: /ff/, /ss/, /zz/ and /ll/ which the children have been practising reading and writing in cvc and cvcc words. For dictation we have been working on saying the sentence and counting the words before writing it. In handwriting, we have been practising the 'curly caterpillar' letters: a, o, d, c, g and b.
In maths, the children have been exploring the numbers five to ten as 'five and a bit more' using concrete manipulatives (Unifix cubes) and lots of choral speaking to reinforce the concept. We built staircases from zero to ten to illustrate the idea of 'one more' as the number increases and have been singing 'One, two, three, four, five, once I caught a fish alive' with actions.
For Forest School, we read a story about kindness and laid a trail of love hearts around the playground for the children to follow.
In continuous provision, the children have enjoyed a range of varied activities including building their own space rockets using cardboard boxes, pipe cleaners and other craft resources, and having the option to make Valentine's Day cards for their families and friends.
