Smithfield Elementary

My name is Eric Kerstetter, and I am very excited to be the Principal at Smithfield Elementary School. Prior to this, I taught one year of Chemistry at Carbon County Vo Tech and then I taught 5 years of General Science at East Stroudsburg North High School. After that, I was the Assistant Principal at JTL for 9 years and the last 3 years of that I was split as Assistant Principal of Smithfield Elementary School. Then I was the Principal of Defranco Elementary School in Bangor for the last 7 years. I'm extremely excited to be back in East Stroudsburg after spending 14 years of my career here. The 3 years that I was previously at Smithfield were some of my favorite years, so it is great to be back. I look forward to working with all of you in creating a positive learning environment for our children.

Personally,

I have been married for 19 years. I have twin boys and they will be going to High School this year. I also have a dog. Family is very important to me and that is why I will work with all of you and create a great school community.

Back-to-School, for Parents!

Here are some terms and descriptions related to reading instruction that may help give you a better understanding of what's happening in your child's classroom at the beginning of the school year and what it all means for your young learners.

September 6, 2022, is National Read a Book Day! To celebrate, please take a picture of your child reading a book (selfies are good, too) and post it to his/her homeroom teacher's Class Dojo page. Each person who submits a picture will have a chance to win a raffle prize of Scholastic Books! Please post your pictures by Friday, September 9th. Also, if your child has a Summer Reading Log, please return all forms by Wednesday, September 7th. Happy Reading!

The cafeteria is in the process of bringing back their Birthday Basket package that parents/guardians will be able to purchase to celebrate their child's special day. More information and order forms will be released from Food Services soon.

In keeping with health and safety, the ESASD Birthday Basket option will be the only type of birthday celebration permitted at this time.
