PSAT/NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP QUALIFYING TEST (NMSQT)
Students have the opportunity to take the PSAT (Preliminary SAT) on Wednesday, October 9, or Thursday, October 17, at the school they attend. This assessment is the qualifying exam for juniors hoping to receive a National Merit Scholarship or award.
The PSAT is also used by many post-secondary institutions as an eligibility measure for course placement. PSAT will be a digital exam issued on the students' school device. It is recommended that any junior who expects to go to college take the exam as preparation for future nationally-normed standardized tests (SAT or ACT, for example). These assessments are administered later in the junior year. Registration is now open and can be completed online using the SmartSchoolK12 payment system through the registration deadline on Friday, September 20, at 3:00pm. Families are encouraged to visit the district PSAT/NMSQT testing website for additional information or email assessment@mvpschools.org.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) EXAMS
The deadline to register for AP exams is Friday, October 4. Completing the AP exam registration is a two-step process:
1) Parents should log in to SmartSchoolK12 payment system and submit payment for their student(s) exams online
2) AP students need to enroll and join their AP class in their College Board account (Teacher has join code)
Registration is NOT complete and AP exams cannot be ordered unless both steps 1 and 2 above are completed.
If you have questions or need additional support with your AP registration, contact us at: aptesting@mvpschools.org.
VOICE OF DEMOCRACY ESSAY
Do you enjoy writing? Want to read your essay and convince someone of your point? Would you like to get paid to write? Can you record your thoughts onto a flashdrive? The Booker-Edmond VFW Post 724 is once again sponsoring the Voice of Democracy essay writing and speaking/ recording contest for all students in grades 9-12.
The essay’s theme this year is “Is America Today Our Forefathers' Vision?" If you are interested, stop by the IMC for the information and entry form. Be sure to follow the instructions given, making sure your essay and recording fit the requirements. For more info, see the application.
Awards locally range from $50-150; you could also qualify for district, state, and national prizes if selected. Mr. Blechert (aaron.blechert@moundsviewschools.org) can answer questions you may have -- he will pick up the entries (essay and recording) at the IMC on Tuesday, October 29, at the end of the day and he’ll coordinate it for the VFW Post reps to pick up. Share your thoughts, voice, and writings!
