Helping Kids Learn the Mass
Several Catholic companies sell Mass rings that kids can bring to Mass to follow along. This is also something you can make with your families to keep them learning responses and actions.
Here is one you can buy from Catholic Family Crate
Or, Here is a DIY Option!
This is a sample of cards you can create on CANVA (a free graphics site). Simply break down the parts of the Mass into sections and responses and make a card for each. Print on heavy paper, cut and punch a hole in the corner. Attach them to a ring and you have a handy Mass Ring! You can also print parts of a children's missal, cut and paste to index cards!
CATHOLIC 101
Placing our Trust in God
There is a simple prayer that Catholics use when they are feeling anxious, scared, uncertain, etc.
It is the prayer of St. Faustina and is simply just:
JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU.
Try training yourself to use this prayer frequently and teach it as a coping mechanism for anxious minds!
PRAY ALWAYS!
Here are some ideas for prayer at the end of our year, from Catechist magazine!
FAMILY CONNECTION
FAITH5
FAITH ACTS in the HOME is a faith practice you can encourage parents to incorporate into the bedtime routine for 5-10 minutes each night.
There are 5 Steps of this faith sharing practice:
1. Share your highs and lows from the day
2. Read a Bible verse or story together
3. Talk about how that might relate to your highs and lows
4. Pray for one another's highs and lows.
5. Bless one another.
KEEP LEARNING
As you reflect and rest...
Summer time may be time for a break as a catechist, but it is an important time to reflect on where you have been and where you are headed. Consider these questions:
What would you like to see as an outcome of faith formation with children and families...
- in weekly sessions?
- in Sacramental catechesis?
- In Children's Liturgy of the Word?
- In Family Catechesis?
- In Parent Formation?
What does healthy and substantial catechesis look like?
What role does the parish and Church community have in making a difference in the world through our sharing of the Good News of Jesus?
How has the Gospel impacted you?

Starting Your Year off Well!
Food Names
A great game to play to learn and remember participants’ names is ‘Food names’. Ask participants to sit on the floor in a circle, yourself included. Each individual has to say their name and the name of a food starting with the same letter as their name. For example, Betty Broccoli. The trick is that you have to say your name and food as well as all the names and foods of those who have introduced themselves before you; that is, if there are 25 students in the class, the last person will have to remember all 25 students names and foods.
