June 2021
News from Dr. Holcomb
As they say in the movie business.......That's a wrap! At times, I have felt like this has been the longest school year ever, but at the same time, I can't believe we just closed the books on the 20-21 school year. Wow!
Thank you for entrusting us with your child everyday for the last 180 days. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we have worked to navigate the ever changing COVID protocols and guidance. Thank you for supporting your child at home so they were ready to learn and grow at school or online each day. I appreciate you! I know it has been a tough year on all of you as well.
I will continue to keep you updated through our Bryant Facebook page this summer and when appropriate through emails and/or phone calls. I hope you have a wonderful summer! If you need anything this summer please feel free to email and/or call. There will not always be someone in the office but I will do my very best to return your messages in a timely manner.

Playgrounds this summer
Starting Monday, June 7th, we will have summer school and Beyond the Bell programming in our building. For safety, our school playgrounds will be locked during this time just as they are during the school year. Due to additional recent vandalism, our playgrounds will remain locked after school hours. I hope that we will be able to reopen them at some point this summer, but for now, they will be closed. I know this is an inconvenience, but unfortunately it is a necessity at this time.
Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) Grades 3rd-5th
I have received some questions about when parents will have access to their child's ISASP test scores. Here is some information about how these reports will become available. As we receive more information we will get that out to you in terms of how to access your child's report.
Beginning in August 2021, Iowa families will have online access to view their student’s results on the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP). The ISASP Parent Portal will allow families to securely access and view the Individual Student Reports (ISR). Please note: students who took remote testing will not receive an ISR and will not have a report available in the portal.
FAST Literacy and Math Spring Data
Our District Literacy goal--increase proficiency by 10% from Fall to Spring. We met our goal with an increase of 13.43%!
Our District Math goal--increase proficiency by 7% from Fall to Spring. We met our goal with an increase of 8.04%!
We were able to take a preliminary dive into the data prior to school ending. We celebrate in the success of our students but know that we have continued hard work ahead of us. While some of the numbers don't reflect it, we did see some really nice growth from our students. We are looking forward to taking part in a number of summer opportunities that will give us additional tools for our toolbox in the Fall.

Communication and Preparedness
Student and staff safety is of paramount importance in the Sioux City Community School District. For this reason, the District exercises a host of crisis prevention and planning tactics. Should an emergency occur, the school notifies you through our Blackboard phone system. In an emergency, the system calls every phone number associated with your child in order to reach you. The message will give you details about the emergency and provide directions on when/where to pick up your child if the normal school day is altered. Learn more about school safety.
