School Devices
Students that have paid the $20 technology fee will begin to bring devices home on Tuesday. Please know that all teachers may not send them home on this particular day as some are still teaching students the various programs that are accessible on the devices. Devices should be charged nightly. These devices should be used ONLY for educational purposes. You can pay the technology fee online here: https://bit.ly/3CfZqrV. Personal Electronic and Communication Devices
If a student brings a personal electronic device or personal communication device onto BCSD property, they are personally and solely responsible for the care and security of their devices.
a. Personal electronic devices shall be defined as any device, that is not district-issued, that has the capability of electronically sending, receiving, storing, recording, reproducing, and/or displaying information and data. Examples of electronic devices include, but are not limited to, computers, tablets, e-readers, portable media players, drones, video gaming systems, GPS instruments, digital cameras, and camcorders.
b. Personal communication devices shall be defined as any devices, that is not district-issued, that has the capability of communicating by means of sending, receiving, storing, recording, reproducing, and/or displaying information and data, any device that emits an audible signal, vibrates, displays a message, live streams, or otherwise summons or delivers a communication to the possessor. Examples of personal communication devices include, but are not limited to, cellular phones, smart watches, and any type of headphone or other accessory used to electronically communicate.
Elementary & Middle Schools (Grades PreK-8): All personal electronic devices and communication devices must be turned off and stored in a locker, pocket, purse, backpack, or other non-visible secure location from the school start time to the school end time.

Beaufort County Library's Summer Reading Program
Congratulations to the students pictured below! These students completed Beaufort County Library's Summer Reading Program. From Coosa, these students also received a book bag brag tag, certificate of completion, and a book from our vending machine.

A Message From Mrs. Bryant, our Literacy Coach
As we continue our school year, I am thrilled to share some key components of our literacy program for kindergarten through 2nd grade. Here’s what your child will be focusing on and how you can support their learning at home.
Kindergarten: Building the Foundation
Phonemic Awareness
Recognize and Produce Rhyming Words: Your child will learn to identify and produce rhyming words through songs and stories.Segment and Blend Sounds: They will practice breaking words into individual sounds and blending them to form words.
Alphabet Knowledge
Identify Uppercase and Lowercase Letters: They will recognize and name all uppercase and lowercase letters.
Letter-Sound Correspondence: Your child will learn the sounds each letter makes.
Print Concepts
Understanding Print: Your child will learn how to follow words from left to right and top to bottom, and recognize that words are separated by spaces.
Basic Writing
Write Letters and Simple Words: They will practice writing letters and simple words, including their own name.
Listening and Speaking
Follow Directions and Ask Questions: They will practice listening to and following simple directions, as well as asking and answering questions.

1st Grade: Expanding Skill
Reading Comprehension
Retell Stories: Your child will retell stories in their own words, identifying main characters and events.
Ask and Answer Questions About Text: They will ask and answer questions about the stories they read.
Phonics and Word Recognition
Decode Words: Your child will use letter-sound relationships to decode new words.
Read Common Sight Words: They will recognize and read frequently used words without needing to sound them out
Writing Development
Write Complete Sentences: They will compose simple sentences with correct spacing and punctuation.
Use a Basic Writing Process: Your child will begin planning, drafting, and revising their writing.
Grammar and Usage
Understand Basic Grammar: They will use nouns and verbs correctly and start using plurals and past tense.

2nd Grade: Developing Proficiency
Reading Fluency
Read Aloud with Expression: Your child will read grade-level text fluently with appropriate expression.
Understand Text Structure: They will understand the basic structure of narrative and informational texts.
Vocabulary and Comprehension
Determine Word Meanings: They will use context clues to figure out the meaning of unknown words.
Identify Main Idea and Details: Your child will identify the central idea and supporting details in a text.
Writing Skills
Write Different Types of Texts: They will write narratives, opinion pieces, and informative texts with more detail and organization.
Use Correct Spelling and Punctuation: Your child will work on spelling common words correctly and using punctuation marks properly.
Speaking and Listening
Participate in Conversations: They will engage in discussions and express their ideas clearly.
Listen for Information: Your child will listen to and follow multi-step directions and provide relevant responses.

How You Can Help at Home
- Read Together: Spend time reading with your child daily. Ask them questions about the story and discuss characters and events.
- Practice Phonics: Use games and activities to practice letter-sound correspondence and blending sounds.
- Encourage Writing: Provide opportunities for your child to write, such as keeping a journal or writing letters to family members.
- Play Word Games: Engage in fun activities that build vocabulary and language skills, like rhyming games or word matching.

Message From Beaufort County School District:
Please be advised that as per state law, BCSD is required to implement make-up days in the event of weather-related school closures. The previously approved calendar make-up days of December 23, 2024 and January 6, 2025 will be implemented to accommodate the two days of school closures associated with Tropical Storm Debby.
We understand that some families and staff members may have already made travel arrangements, and thus these make-up days will be eLearning days.
Your child’s teacher and/or school will provide additional information about what eLearning will look like prior to December 23.
Dates of note:
- December 23 (Monday) - eLearning Day
- January 6 (Monday) – eLearning Day (last day of the first semester)
- January 7 (Tuesday) – Educator Professional Development Day (NO SCHOOL for students)
- January 8 (Wednesday) - First day of the second semester
