Longacre Weekly News
September 7, 2020
Dear Longacre Families,
Thank you for your support during our first week of school! You will have the opportunity to attend a virtual Curriculum Night with your child's teacher during the week of September 14th. The purpose of Curriculum Night is to provide you with an opportunity to learn about your child’s classroom, the learning outcomes of his or her grade level and gain a greater understanding of your child’s school experience as a learner and leader. Please look for more specific information from your child's teacher about Curriculum Night.
Before Curriculum Night with your child's teacher, I'd like to provide an overview of Longacre's educational philosophy, what it means to be a Leader in Me Lighthouse School and ways for you to partner with us for the benefit of your child and our school community. Please scroll down to view my Welcome to the 2020-21 School Year video.

Welcome to the 2020-21 School Year Video
Get Creative with PTA Program Reflections
This year’s theme is I Matter Because...
Students can submit up to two entries in each category: photography, visual arts, musical
composition, dance choreography and film production. Longacre PTA will register for the
school and information on submissions will be given in each classroom when available.
Connecting to Canvas (Learning Management System)
As a reminder, students access their Canvas accounts in the following way:
Students can access their Canvas accounts at http://fpsk12.instructure.com. A student will use their FPS email username and password. The student email and password format are as follows:
EMAIL: (not case sensitive)
fps + lastname + firstinitial + last 2 digits of student ID (i.e. fpswashingtong99@stu.fpsk12.net)
PASSWORD: (IS case sensitive)
last four of student id number + Upper First Initial + lower last initial + birth year (i.e. 9999Gw1732)
A parent can view their student login information in the MiStar Parent Portal as well.
Parents can create their Canvas account by doing the following steps:
Parents can create a Parent Canvas account at http://fpsk12.instructure.com. To do this, parents along with their student(s) need to first generate a pairing code within the student account. This pairing code then allows a parent account to be linked to the student’s account. Here are directions for creating the parent account and linking it to your student’s account. Once you have created your parent account via http://fpsk12.instructure.com, you can also access Canvas via the Canvas Parent app on your phone. Here is a short video on how you can use the Canvas Parent app.
If you find that you are unable to pair your parent account with your students account, you will need to wait a little longer before making this connection. There are still some MiStar - Canvas integration pieces that are being worked out that is not allowing this pairing to occur with certain students.
For now, simply use your student's account and watch for email communication from the teacher for the first day live meet link and learning plans. 6-12 students will receive this email in their FPS email accounts. K-5 parents will receive this email in their email on record in MiStar.
It may take the first week of school for use to be 100% Canvas connected. Email will be a useful tool during this transitional period.
In the event that you have technology concerns, please make use of a Farming Student Service Desk. This could relate to FPS devices received as part of our In-Home Device program or login concerns.
