Principal Message - Kanika A. Burks
Good Evening MCP: Lola Rowe North Families,
Last Friday was January One School One Mission (OSOM) activity. For the last hour of the day, Buddy Classrooms (an elementary classroom and a middle school classroom) met to focus on our TRECK Value of EMPATHY. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. We focus on the following while teaching EMPATHY:
- Demonstrates social awareness
- Practices curiosity and respect of diversity
- Challenges negative thoughts about others
- Practices experimental empathy
- Reflects on the importance of others
- Takes perspective of others
- Reflects on the importance of others
- Takes perspective of others
With their buddy classrooms and beyond, our scholars and our staff are dedicated to listening to understand while others are speaking. It is not always easy; however, empathy is essential to good character. Take time today to focus on empathy with us by challenging your negative thoughts. The image below provides you with some questions to ask yourself when your are faced with negative thoughts.
Remember you can't be both awesome and negative!! I think you're pretty awesome!!
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow for parent teacher conferences. If you did not schedule a conference, one has been scheduled for you. Please contact your scholar's teacher or the main office to confirm your conference time. Remember Quarter 2 conferences are mandatory.
