November 2024
October has been a very busy month here at EVS. Our Open House was a huge success. It was great to see so many families in attendance. Our students enjoyed our Scholastic Book Fair during that time as well. Staff and students enjoyed learning about fire safety and watching the winners of our poster contest arrive to school on Fire Trucks. Students spent time during a recess climbing into Fire Trucks and Police Cars. The whole month of October students and staff worked on improving hallway behavior. Students earned gumballs to put onto our paper gumball machine in the hallway by the office. There will be a schoolwide celebration for filling the gumball machine on October 31!

What is WIN Block?
EVS is in year two of implementation of our WIN Block. WIN stands for What I need! Some school districts call this time an intervention block. At EVS, we are focusing on literacy skills. Every student at EVS gets the benefit of participating in small group literacy instruction every day for 30 minutes outside of the whole group Literacy instruction provided by the classroom teacher. Teachers, Reading Specialists, Special Educators and Paraprofessionals all work together to provide every student explicit instruction at the student's level and pace. Each team of educators work closely together to ensure that all students are making progress toward becoming a reader or supporting students that are readers explore more complex text to improve their knowledge.
What this means for your student, is that they could be receiving WIN block instruction in their classroom with their teacher or paraprofessional or in another space in the building by another educator. We work hard to make sure that every child is getting reading support where they need it most!

EVS PTA Fundraiser
The ENFIELD VILLAGE SCHOOL PTA is running a fundraiser, and will be sending home catalogues with your student(s) on Monday Nov. 4, 2024. We're working with Meadow Farms Fundraising, with products purchased from them directly supporting our fundraising efforts. This year, the PTA is focused on fundraising towards purchasing new sensory hallway designs for the rest of the school hallway – like the one in the basement hallway. All proceeds will go towards purchasing new hallway designs to be installed next summer. The fundraising period begins on November 8 to November 29, 2024 and is online only. Get started by registering here - https://portal.meadowfarms.com/?page=authSignup&groupid=1001524
The link in the message above is for registering sellers only, and not for shopping.

Lunch Balances
There are a couple of different ways to pay for student breakfast/lunch balances.
- You can send money in an envelope to school with your students name on it. We will give it to the kitchen and it will get put on your child's account.
- You can set up an online account through MyMealtime and put money on their account. Check out the food services section of the school website for more information.
You will receive a paper copy of any outstanding balances. If you need help, please reach out to the office.
