Staff Member of the Week
Maria Monte
Maria Monte has dedicated 29 years to educating children in multiple capacities. She was a first-grade teacher at North Elementary School for 19 years before transitioning to her current role as a math and reading interventionist for grades K-5 — a position she has held for the past five years.
To Mrs. Monte, North Elementary is more than just a workplace — it’s a second home. She has spent more time within its walls than anywhere else besides her own home. Her connection to the school runs deep; she attended North when it was known as North Middle School, and her children received their education here. Her husband, Michael, also spent many years at North as a music teacher.
Outside of her dedication to education, Mrs. Monte enjoys traveling, practicing yoga, hiking and scuba diving. She also loves supporting her husband at musical events. In the summer, you’ll often find her relaxing on her boat with a good book in ha
Attendance Challenge
I’m excited to announce the Every Day Counts Attendance Challenge! From March 24th through April 17th, the North staff is challenging all students to prioritize coming to school each day. The two homerooms with the highest attendance during this period will earn a special treat/celebration during the week following Spring Vacation. Attendance is a key factor in student success, and we appreciate your partnership in encouraging strong attendance habits. Stay tuned for updates on the challenge!

Our Student Council has been working hard under the facilitation of Mrs. Vitullo to develop new positive community outreach initiatives at North. Their first newsletter is attached below.
In their newest project, the Student Council is now announcing the launch of Cubby's Food Pantry in April to support our North community. Thanks to our 5th grade Student Council members for all of their hard work!

News from the Health Office
A few reminders from Nurse Stephanie in our Health Office to help keep all of our students safe and healthy:
Students with active vomiting, diarrhea, open rashes, crusty/inflamed eyes, and/or temperature > 100 are asked to remain home from school.
Students may return from school when their temperature is < 100 for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
Illness Specific:
Strep: Students must be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school, and they need a note to return.
Pink eye: Must be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school.
Hand Foot Mouth: Fever-free for 24 hours and no open skin lesions. All areas must be scabbed/closed over
Vomiting/Diarrhea: May return when tolerating good amounts of food/water and no vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours
Please do not send medication to school in your child’s backpack. Anything with an active ingredient is designated a medicine in school. This includes cough syrup, cough drops, ointments, nasal sprays, vitamin gummies, etc. If you would like to have any medications available for your child at school, please notify the Health Office.
Students after surgery, for hurt or broken limbs, sprains, strains, or any student with assistive devices (splints, casts, boots, crutches, etc.) must have a note to be in school as well as MD clearance or restrictions for recess/PE.
Grade 4 physicals are due to be updated! Please send in your student’s most recent physical if you have not done so already.
Children access their education in many ways. If you have received a vision or hearing referral for your student, follow up is strongly recommended so we can continue to provide our students with optimal experiences to strengthen their learning.
