FALL CONFERENCES - LECHNER & MELROSE
Sign-up for a time to talk w/ Ms. Lechner or Mr. Melrose about how band is going for your student.

PRACTICE GOALS
TOP TIPS FOR PRACTICE:
1. CHUNK - break it into smaller parts and try to player smaller parts 3 times well before moving onto next part
2. SLOW - your brain, fingers, lips, and air and need to learn how to work together. Practice things 3 times super slow, 3 times medium, and 3 times at speed you want
6th Grade:

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE
Marcia Berman Percussion Scholarship
A $300 scholarship awarded to one or more student(s) in grades 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12 who:
- is a current Sun Prairie Bands percussion student who has also participated in school and/or community clubs and organizations
Scholarships are dispersed as:
- Payment for private percussion lessons during the current school year
- Payment for percussion summer camps
How to apply:
- Collect one letter of recommendation (as an electronic pdf file), which needs to be written by a current teacher in the Sun Prairie School District
- Complete and submit the online scholarship application and attach the pdf file by Nov. 14, 2024.
BPBF H.E.A.R. Scholarship
Underrepresented artists have a long and rich history in the arts. The BPBF H.E.A.R. (Helping support Equitable Access and Representation) Scholarship promotes equitable access and representation to music education and enrichment activities for groups including but not limited to Black/African American, Latinx, Native North American, Asian/Pacific Islander, and LGBTQIA+ students. Through this scholarship, we hope to open opportunities for these students looking to enrich their musical studies.
A $300 scholarship awarded to one or more band student(s) in grades 7, 8, 9, 10, or 11 who:
- are current members of the Sun Prairie Band program, and
- participated in school and/or community clubs & organizations
- Note: students are eligible to be awarded with the BPBF H.E.A.R Scholarship no more than once per school year.
Scholarships are dispersed as:
- Subsidy payment to assist with private lessons in the lesson academy program
- Payment for band camp or activity that is recommended by your Band Director
How to apply:
- Collect two letters of recommendation (as electronic pdf files), one from a band director and another from an adult who is not related to you
- Complete and submit the online scholarship application and attach the two pdf files by Nov. 14, 2024.
CH PEP BAND & PRACTICE CLUB
Pep Band & Band Practice Club *ALL GRADES 6, 7, 8*
Band Practice Club meets on Thursdays after school until 4:40pm (students can take activity bus home). FULL SCHEDULE - HERE
At this club we will play for home basketball games whenever they are Thursdays, provide a chance to for older students to mentor younger students, and have a fun and relaxed environment to practice and have fun.
SP Middle School & High School "MEGA PEP BAND" Friday December 13
All Sun Prairie Band students are invited to be a part of the largest pep band on Friday December 13th. Students will stay after school, rehearse, eat pizza dinner, and then play at a SP East Basketball Game. SIGN UP BY NOVEMBER 25:

SHIRT & INSTRUMENT FEES - INFINITE CAMPUS
Instrument Rental Fees
Students using a school-owned instrument should now see a $50 yearly fee in their Infinite Campus account.
*Percussion fee is $25/year
6th Grade - Shirt Fee
- All new students to music (Band, Choir, & Orchestra) will see a $22 shirt fee in Infinite Campus.
- These shirts are our uniforms for all music classes for concerts (required)
- Once students outgrow their shirt, they can trade it in for a larger size
