December 20, 2024
December at the IAM...looking ahead to 2025!
May peace and the hope of the new year be with your families.
IB Diploma Programme (grades 11 & 12)
Mr. Samonie, IB Coordinator, has been busy registering the seniors for the IB Exams that will take place in May 2025 at the Macomb Intermediate School District. Students have also been working diligently on their Internal Assessment for several classes as well as preparing for the Oral Assessments that will take place next semester.
IB MYP Programme (grades 9 & 10)
Mr. Pete, MYP Coordinator, is leading the 9th students on the journey of creating Personal Projects! Each student has self-selected a learning goal that will guide research they will do for the remainder of this semester.
Next semester, students will progress to taking the learning and creating a product that is influenced by their research and self-created standards. Please be sure to check on your child's progress throughout the year to find out ways that you can support the amazing projects they are creating. Attached is a copy of the personal project guide, including a timeline with due dates.
! Bravo !
Congratulations to senior Finn W., and the cast and crew of Darrel from Accounting: The Musical. This month, the students brought this show to life. Finn wrote the entire script, musical scores and directed the show! A big thank you to staff sponsor, Mr. Garcia, for his support of the production.
Volunteers at Work
IAM Students Max, Tyler, Eshan, Wahid, and Addison created a CAS project that involved an event that supported McRest Rotating Homeless Shelter. They did things like made cards, served food, led crafts and sang carols at the party. The students worked diligently and enthusiastically as they supported residents of the shelter.
NHS - Food Drive
Throughout the month of November, the IAM Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) ran a donation drive for Turning Point Macomb. Turning Point is an organization dedicated to supporting victims of sexual and domestic violence. NHS members Ava E, Maja S, and Jacob D successfully organized our school's Thanks-For-Giving drive. They collected a whopping total of 390 donations to support these victims and spread joy and gratitude during the holiday season. All grade levels contributed in donating clothes, toys, food, hygiene products, and more! We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity and the initiative taken by our IB students in coming together to help those in need.
Gingerbread House Making Competition
Each year, Frau Nagle hosts a gingerbread house making competition to honor a German tradition. Frau Nagle explains the tradition: "The tradition of making gingerbread houses dates back to the 16th century and was popularized in the 1800s when the fairytale Hansel and Gretel was published by the Brothers Grimm. The city of Nuremberg in Bavaria, Germany, is particularly famous for its version of gingerbread, or Lebkuchen, and it is recognized as the Gingerbread Capital of the World.”
French Tradition - Bûche de Noël
Madame Losiewicz taught students about the French tradition, Bûche de Noël. "This traditional Christmas cake originated in France during medieval times to honor the burning of the Yule log, a giant and heavy log that was placed in the hearth and not allowed to ever burn out completely. Families would take little pieces of the remaining log to bring them luck and prosperity in the year ahead." https://www.harryanddavid.com/blog/buche-de-noel
