Our Willow families showed up in a big way for the HSD153 Day of Service! Thank you immensely for your donations to help the South Suburban Humane Society. We had so many donations that after filling one van, they needed to call another person to come for the rest. If you braved the cold to go into the building, you were greeted by 5 of their canine "ambassadors." Who doesn't love a furry snuggle on a frigid day?

Part 2 of the mandated Erin's Law trainings will start next week. This section covers:

1. Safe touches help you feel cared for and loved (hugs, pats, high fives, pats on the back).
2. Unsafe touches hurt your body or feelings (hitting, kicking, pushing, pinching)
3. You can say words that mean no to any kind of touch you don't want. We will practice refusing unwanted touches assertively.

Thank you to the parents who have already done the survey. We need as many of you as possible to give us 20 minutes of your time to help us make Willow an even better place for learning.

Monica Clark-Robinson has written a powerful children’s story titled, Let the Children March. Set in 1963-1965, it tells the story of civil rights and the children’s crusade guided by Dr. Martin Luther King. Beautiful illustrations help the reader understand the true power of the situation as well as the afterward section at the end detailing more information about how the children and teens in Birmingham during that time in history helped change the world. The Homewood Public Library has this title on their shelf available for checkout.

The 10-day event will be starting on February 7th for all K-8 students. This year's event will be raising money to provide grants to all three District 153 school libraries, and we have exciting gift baskets for every grade level. Parent information and Bookie's Homewood coupons will be going home with students next week.
