LMS Tiger Talk
February 9, 2024
Principal's Message
Tiger Families,
We had a pretty special morning at LMS this week as we welcomed Hope Squad students from LIS, LMS and LHS to come together to connect and share earlier for our first ever Hope Squad Collaboration. With students from grades 5 through 12 coming together to share ideas about how to support their peers and promote mental health across our schools and community, we were all reminded about how awesome our kids are. I was especially amazed with how reflective and empathetic our middle school students were, and it was really cool to see our older kids from LHS leaning into the opportunity to mentor and support their younger peers. It was pretty special.
Also happening this week, we met with all of our 8th grade teams to for our mid-year review on how we Tiger Up! across LMS, every single day. You can check out the slides for that presentation here if you want to see what we discussed or review some things with your child at home. We'll meet with our 7th grade teams next week. Thank you for your continued collaboration and support!
LAST CALL for volunteers who want to participate in this year's Career Exploration Day as presenter on Tues, 3/5. We've extended our deadline to sign up through this Sunday and the sign-up form can be accessed here. More information can be found below. It will be a great day!
Take care and Go Tigers!

LMS Career Exploration Day - Volunteers Needed LAST CALL!!
In support of our student's exploration of career fields that may be of interest to them for their future, and as a piece of our comprehensive career and college readiness plans, Loveland Middle School is excited to announce that we will be hosting our Career Exploration Day this year for all 7th-grade and 8th students taking place on Tues, March 5th. This event will feature career presentations here at LMS for our 7th grade students while our 8th grade students take a field trip to the Junior Achievement Inspire to Hire event at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center. The goal of these events is for our students to learn about a diverse mix of job and and career options that are available upon graduation from high school and/or college and for our students to connect with local businesses, professionals and potential future employers.
For the 7th grade portion of the day, we are looking for parents, family members, or other local community members who are interested in presenting to our students about their current job or career. For the event, students will be able to choose from a list of presentations to attend. Students will choose three presentations to attend which will last for 25 minutes each. If you are interested in presenting about your job, we would love to have you come to be a part of our Career Exploration Day here at LMS on Tues, March 5th from 7:30-9:30! Please fill out this form to indicate your interest. We appreciate your willingness to come to spend time with our amazing students! The sign up form closes on Sunday, 2/11.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Drews Mitchell, Career and College Counselor (mitchedr@lovelandschools.org), or David Knapp, LMS Principal (knappda@lovelandschools.org).
LMS Dodgeball Tournament
Duck, Dive, Dodge! The dodgeball tournament will be held on Friday, Feb. 23rd from 2:15 to 4:00 in the LMS Gym. All paperwork and team money is due to Ms. Rose in room 14 by Friday, Feb. 16th. Bring money for the $5 entry fee as well as concessions (teams do not pay entry fee). Costumes are encouraged!! All proceeds benefit the LHS Team CoUREage 5.0 Student of the Year team for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. If you have any questions, contact Ms. Rose at roseka@lovelandschools.org.
Suicide Prevention, Safety Training and Social Inclusion
House Bill 123 requires all public schools to provide age-appropriate education in suicide prevention and awareness, safety training and violence prevention, and social inclusion for all students in grades 6-12. Training for students in our building will take place on February 20, 22 and 23 during Tiger Time. We want parents to be aware of this required training and provide you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have prior to the training.
The district is required to choose from a list of approved curriculums provided by the Ohio Department of Education. The curriculum the district has chosen for social inclusion education is Start with Hello. The district will use Erika’s Lighthouse for suicide awareness and prevention as well as safety training and violence prevention. All students will participate in this education unless you provide us a letter indicating you do not give permission for your child to participate.
Again, Loveland City School District and all public school districts in Ohio are required to provide instruction in suicide prevention and awareness, safety training and violence prevention, and social inclusion. Below are some links that will provide you additional information on each of the curriculums the district has chosen.

Tiger Up! Staff Member of the Week - Jonathan Franklin
Congratulations to this week's Tiger Up! Staff Member of the Week, Jonathan Franklin! Jonathan is an education aide and coach for us here at LMS. Mr. Franklin spends his days here at school supporting students and staff mostly in our 8th grade social studies classrooms, but goes by "Coach" after school as he helps to lead our cross-country and track athletes. Mr. Franklin was nominated by Intervention Specialist, Mrs. Carolyn Turner who applauded Jonathan for his ability to work with all students across the different classrooms he supports. Mr. Franklin has become an expert in history, providing students access to difficult concepts and ideas that would otherwise might be overlooked. Jonathan (aka Franky) is reliable, flexible and always happy to help however he can. We are so thankful to have Mr. Franklin as a part of our team here at LMS! Thank you for all you do for all our students and LMS, Jonathan!

Reminders
School Drop-Off Procedures
We have seen an uptick in our morning drop-off traffic with the colder temperatures and we wanted to take a moment to remind everyone of the drop-off procedures. For the safety of our students and purposes of efficiency (and making this process as quick as possible for all of you!), It is very important that ALL people follow these instructions during this busy part of the day:
- For those families dropping off and/or picking up your child from the LIS/LMS campus, you will pull in the main entrance and you will have to follow the line in the picture below before dropping off or picking up your student(s). You MUST follow this line all the way around the back of the building - DO NOT turn left immediately to the front drive of the building. This causes back-ups and unsafe conditions for students walking or riding their bike to school.
- The area where students are dropped and picked up remains in the front of the building. You will pull all the way up in front of the main LIS/LMS entrance before your student(s) leaves or enters the car. PULL ALL THE WAY UP to the end of the drop-off area (designated by signs) before your child exits the vehicle. This allows more students to be exiting their vehicle at the same time and improves efficiency. Please see the pictures below for the traffic pattern and drop-off area locations.
- Car riders, please also be aware that we will have students walking and riding their bikes to school each day. Please be careful and keep an eye out for students crossing the street and driveway around our campus. You can see the marked crosswalk locations in the picture below where students and pedestrians should be crossing.
If everyone follows the process accordingly, we know it to be the most efficient and safe process possible given the volume and our campus layout. We appreciate everyone's cooperation in following the established process for our car riders. If you have any questions, please let us know.
