Dear Robert Hunter Families,

Results of state and district assessments have recently been shared with families. This information has also been shared with staff, and we are working to identify areas of strength and areas in need of improvement, as we tailor instruction to meet the diverse needs of our school community. Robert Hunter teachers worked together during our last Professional Development Day to analyze assessment data and collaborate on how to best support student learning. We are looking forward to a great year of growth for all of our students.


This upcoming week is our Walkathon! We are looking forward to a great day with all students walking on our walking path to celebrate RH being the “Perfect Place to BEE!” and we are ready to get “slimed” if the PTO meets the fundraising goal! We will also have a whole school meeting led by students in Ms. Salazar/Ms. Owens and Ms. Ashey/Ms. Fernandes’ classes. Going along with our Walkathon “bee” theme, for our Friday spirit day, we encourage everyone to wear yellow and black. We will be recognizing the class in each grade level with the most spirit. It’s going to be a great week!

NJ Governor's Educator and ESP of the Year

It is that very special time of year- time to nominate one Teacher of the Year and one Educational Services Professional of the Year! This is a New Jersey state program that is run each year to recognize amazing educators. Families- please consider nominating a Robert Hunter teacher and educational services professional who you feel should be recognized with this award. If you are not sure who falls under the category of Educational Services Professional, please click HERE.

The nomination deadline for this school year is Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 4:00pm. A panel has been assembled to select our two winners. We will announce winners on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

Coin Drive

Mrs. Smits and her 3rd Grade students have organized a coin drive to assist those affected by Hurricane Helene and Milton. Please see their flyer below:

PTO Enrichment Clubs

After-school enrichment clubs continue this week. Please ensure that you arrive at 4:45 to pick up your child. You do not need to complete a dismissal change form for clubs, as we have student rosters for all of the clubs. Please complete the form only if your child is NOT staying for a club that they are registered for. Staff will be taking attendance for the clubs at dismissal; however, you should still review with your child when they will be staying after school for their clubs.

Conferences

Teachers will be reaching out this upcoming week with open times to sign up for conferences. If you requested a translator, your conference time will be scheduled for you in order to ensure a translator is available.

Halloween Parade

We are planning our Halloween parade for 9:45 on Oct. 31st. Children should come to school in their costumes, should they choose to participate. As you are choosing costumes, please remember that plastic weapons, such as guns and swords, may NOT be brought to school as part of a costume. Additionally, please be mindful that scary or revealing costumes leave lasting impressions on young children. Your cooperation to keep our parade enjoyable for all is greatly appreciated. If you would prefer your child not to remain in their costume all day, please send in alternative clothing for him/her to change into after the parade. Families are invited to watch the parade on the blacktop if it is held outside. If it rains, we would need to move our parade indoors without family viewing.

STEM at Home

Ms. Tremel (STEM, G&T Math, and Stretch teacher) will offer STEM challenges for students to try at home. Check out the challenge for this month here. Please send a picture of your finished project by October 30. We will highlight some of the designs in our next newsletter!

24th Annual RH Walk-A-Thon Fundraiser - THIS FRIDAY, October 25th

Our "RH is the place to BEE!" walk-a-thon is coming up THIS FRIDAY!!! We are so excited to join together as a school community on the walking path with our fellow RH raccoons and Robbie, all dressed in our black and yellow. This is our largest and most critical fundraiser all year, and we are so appreciative to our RH families and community for the tremendous support. Please remember to return your completed pledge sheets (pledge sheet linked HERE) and donations to school this week, or visit https://pledgestar.com/roberthunterschool/ to donate online. Remember to share with your family and friends!

★The class with the highest fundraising participation rate (# of students participating, NOT dollars raised) in each grade level will get to celebrate with a popsicle party. And if we break our goal of school goal of $14,000, students who fundraise (any dollar amount) will be entered into a raffle to SLIME(!) Mrs. Braynor and Mrs. Shirvanian at an upcoming whole school meeting! ★

This event occurs during the school day, and we're excited to be able to once again welcome parent volunteers to come cheer on the kids. Click HERE to sign up for a volunteer spot by Wednesday, 10/23. Please note that for safety reasons only registered volunteers will be able to join the event.
