K-12: 2024 ACS Illustrated Poem Contest
The Southern Nevada Local Section of the American Chemical Society is hosting an illustrated poem contest for Grades K-12 with the theme, "Picture Perfect Chemistry." There are four age-group categories (K-2, Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8, and Grades 9-12), as specified on the flyer and entry form. 1st and 2nd place in each of the four categories (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12) will receive a Family 4-pack of passes to the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum or four discount passes to the Atomic Testing Museum or an item of ACS merchandise (e.g., Periodic Table poster, mouse pad, cell phone cover).
The contest may appeal to students with interests in science, poetry, writing, or the arts. Winners of the Southern Nevada Local Section’s Illustrated Poem Contest will advance to the National Illustrated Poem Contest for a chance to be featured on the ACS website and to win prizes! Contest entries can be submitted by Sunday, October 27, 2024, at https://forms.gle/YsxLyEU9AmgvhSrMA or US mail. GIRL POWERED EVENT
The DISCOVERY Children’s Museum is thrilled to join hundreds of Girl Powered events worldwide this October, aligning with the United Nations’ International Day of the Girl (October 11th). Girl Powered, a collaborative effort between the Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation and VEX Robotics, is designed to engage young women, introduce them to STEM opportunities, and foster an inclusive environment where their confidence and creativity can flourish.
DISCOVERY Children's Museum will host FREE event on Sunday, October 27th, that includes hands-on STEM stations, robotics demonstrations, and presentations by inspiring Women in STEM guest speakers, creating an immersive experience for attendees. Young women will be able to explore their talents, connect with mentors, and take the Girl Powered Pledge, reaffirming their place as future leaders in STEM. CSN Veterinary Nursing Program
Hi NVLA students:
I am Mrs. Attebery, Counselor, who will be signing you up for the optional ASVAB Career Explorations Program. This assessment is not only for those interested in going into the military. It is for ALL students who want to explore their interests and how those interests can be connected to career opportunities.
***Test is open to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders
***The test must be taken on campus as you need the test code to take the assessment, so keep that in mind when deciding to sign up.
Test will be given:
December 11, 2024
Time: 9:00 am (Arrival 8:30 am)
Hours: 9:00 am -Noon (test is self-timed so may be quicker, but for planning expect around 4 hours)
Results: January 22nd @ 9:00 am (online test interpretation presentation)

Helldorado Days Rodeo (formerly Las Vegas Days Rodeo) is excited to announce the 4th Annual Helldorado Days Youth Coloring Contest!
