The Wildcat Week Ahead
2/17 - 2/21
Happy Snowy Sunday, Families!
This past week was very exciting! We had the Kindergarten QU wedding, a concert, our first ski and ride, and even a surprise snow day. The kiddos have been handling all these activities pretty well. However, we've noticed some students, especially in younger grades, using inappropriate gestures, like the middle finger, or inappropriate language for school. While the two weeks leading up to a break often come with a spark of energy and an uptick in behavior, these behaviors are continuing to be persistent. I've added some family resources around how to talk to kids about their behavior and how to navigate challenging or annoying behaviors in school. Your kiddos' teachers and I are resources and we encourage you to reach out with concerns.
...Back to the middle finger. Many kids understand that this gesture is not okay, but they might not know why. Some may copy others or think it's funny. To help with this, I have given teachers a social story to talk about this in a way that makes sense for younger students.
Our school has gone through some big changes recently, and changes can sometimes bring challenges. The big changes have been welcoming five (5) new students to our school. Being so small, additions to classes can be hard, but they also can be beautiful opportunities for kids to practice making new friends. Our staff is working hard to manage these situations and support our students.
This past week, I posted to the Grand Isle Front Porch Forum, letting our communities know that the the 25/26 Kindergarten registration is now open. Here is the link to fill out or share. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdxvqhWew9W3_Jg3w8wZQsJ3ZJlRlg-y94xTWqIhAdJcGikIA/viewform?usp=dialog
We're looking forward to a fun Spirit Week leading up to the winter break (kids come back on March 5th). Our literacy night for K-3 families is also postponed- stay tuned for a new date.
As always, my door and inbox are always open,
