CVUSD Celebrates Red Ribbon Week - October 23rd to 31st
Red Ribbon Week provides an opportunity to discuss drug-free choices and positively model for students by encouraging parents, staff, and students to wear symbolic red ribbons to make a visible statement that we are strongly committed to live a healthy life!
Californians launched the Red Ribbon campaign in 1985 for Drug Free Youth. The purpose of the campaign is to draw attention to the need to eliminate the demand for illegal drugs.
Throughout Red Ribbon Week, CVUSD schools hold special spirit week events to build school connectedness and show our commitment to healthy lifestyles!

We are proud to announce the transformation of Madroña Elementary School to Madroña Academy of the Arts and Sciences, where exploration meets excellence! The CVUSD’s newest academy provides cross-curricular connections for students through the arts and sciences, while building hands-on learning capacity and the skills to support future professions in the arts and sciences.
The vision of Madroña Academy is to foster curiosity and inspire young minds. This is accomplished, in part, through innovative and dynamic learning spaces. The campus is now the proud home of a beautiful new science lab, an engineering lab with 3D printers, an adaptive dance studio, garden area and curriculum aligned art instruction across multiple disciplines, including: Music and Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Digital Arts. The newly developed Madroña Academy of the Arts and Sciences Advisory Board will serve to guide and support the program development as this academy continues to enrich learning opportunities for its Mustang scholars.
Madroña has cultivated distinct partnerships with local leaders in the fields of arts and sciences, such as: TOArts, Loyola Marymount and California State University, Channel Islands. These partnerships contribute to the academy’s student-centered learning environments through guidance, consultation, collaboration, and financial support to help enhance and enrich programs.

The ACE Mentor Program Benefits Westlake High Scholars
This school year, a group of Westlake High School students are participating in the ACE Mentor Program. The after-school program emulates an actual design team with students guided through various mock design projects assisted by their architect, engineer, construction management, and tradesperson mentors.
Mentors meet with the students two days a month as they work towards a final project, introducing them to the careers, industry vocabulary, and various roles companies play in the construction industry.
The mission of the ACE Mentor Program is to engage, excite, and enlighten high school students to pursue careers in architecture, engineering, and construction through mentoring and continued support for their advancement into the industry.
Way to go, Warriors!
This past Wednesday, in honor of Unity Day, the Maple Elementary School community collaborated to create a beautiful new mural to celebrate the theme of INCLUSION through the lens of the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing that is being constructed in the community. The school's art teacher created the mural for this special Unity Day Mural Project with funding for this project generously provided by the Kiwanis Club of Thousand Oaks.
Throughout the morning of Unity Day, all Maple students and staff members had the opportunity to leave their mark in the form of colorful handprints - showcasing their commitment to INCLUSION. The mural will serve as a visual reminder to always choose kindness, and include others.
