Happy Monday!
Join us next week (9/21/23) for our first Falcon Zone Coalition Meeting - Please take a minute to RSVP below!
I would like to thank Christmas Unlimited for their donation of school supplies to our Zone! They donated a plethora of supplies and teachers and counselors were able to come "shop" and pick out what they may need to support their classrooms or students in need.
Additionally, thanks to some funding from CDE through Donorschoose.org, I was able to secure a variety of Sensory/Fidget items for each of our elementary schools! Each school received a box of items for student use to help with regulation and de-escaltion.

Empowering Moments
From Superintendent Smith...
Our Falcon Zone Teachers are awesome! It is incredible to see the amazing things that take place from the outstanding planning and effort of our teachers. Just over a week ago, our Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (CLDE) teachers from Meridian Ranch, Bennett Ranch, and Woodmen Hills put on a spectacular event at each of their schools.
Leslie Allen, CLDE Teacher at Meridian Ranch and Bennett Ranch, and Brooke Austermiller, CLDE Teacher at Woodmen Hills, put on their CLDE Awards Nights for students and families to celebrate outstanding achievement within their programs. Students were recognized for their hard work and academic growth within the program at their school. Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Austermiller both celebrated each student's individual success by sharing a personal story of each student's accomplishments. Students were excited to learn how they demonstrated the most growth in either Reading, Writing. Speaking, or Listening. Families celebrated each of these achievements together and it was awesome to see just how proud everyone was of our students.
Thank you to Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Austermiller for putting together such an inspiring event that brought community together and celebrated the achievement of so many students! It was so very apparent how much you care about your students along with how much your students and families love and appreciate all you do for them too! Thank you!
Highlights from FMS
Falcon Middle School students participated in Anti-Bullying presentations this last week with the organization, TESSA. This was a school wide movement to make sure all students have a greater awareness of bullying and to develop skills to handle situations that students may be put in. FMS wants to make sure that students have the skills to handle situations that come up and have a clear understanding of what bullying is (ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behavior that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm) and is not (single episodes of social rejection or dislike, single acts of nastiness or spite, random acts of aggression or intimidation or mutual arguments, disagreements or fights).
Many students also participated in Sources of Strength (SOS) Training with teacher representatives, Mrs. Balk and Mrs. McDonald. The mission of Sources of Strength is to prevent adverse outcomes by increasing wellbeing, help-seeking, resiliency, healthy coping, and belonging. Sources of Strength moves beyond a singular focus on risk factors by utilizing an upstream approach for youth suicide prevention. This upstream model strengthens multiple sources of support, or protective factors, for young people so that when times get hard, they have strengths to rely on.

We 💚 Our D49 Teachers
Thank you to everyone that took the time to recognize some of our amazing staff members. Below are the recognitions gathered from last week!
Lisa Murdock & 6th Grade Red Team (FMS) - My son has had a very difficult time transitioning into middle school, and this team has worked really hard to help him and communicate with me. I really appreciate how much they care for their students. It helps so much to know that he has good support at school.
Kylie Nelms (WHES) - She is a brand new teacher and she is rocking it. She supports student learning through engaging activities. She’s very professional and supportive in IEP meetings as the general education teacher. She is very open minded to policies and procedures and genuinely wants her students to succeed.
Mrs. Pecic (BRES) - Mrs. Pecic is a highly motivated, detail oriented, authentic dean who is heavily relied on. She has been working tirelessly with students, PTA, teachers and parents to do her job positively and effectively. She demonstrates what it means to be a dignified professional, who always reacts based on needs that exceed far beyond her own.
Hailey MacIntosh (MRES) - She is AMAZING! She connected to my student immediately and is helping him be successful in school. I am so grateful that she is a part of my classroom and our school!
