ALVORD UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
Distrito Escolar Unificado de Alvord
April 21, 2024
A Message from the Superintendent
During her three years serving as Alvord's Assistant Superintendent, she has ensured all students have access to the resources and opportunities needed to succeed, regardless of their background. "Dr. Byrne’s exemplary record in educational leadership and her profound commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment make her uniquely qualified to lead our district," said Board President Carolyn M. Wilson. “We are confident that under her guidance, Alvord will continue to thrive and set new benchmarks in educational excellence."
Dr. Byrne expressed her enthusiasm for her new role, stating, "I am honored to serve as the Superintendent of Alvord Schools. It is a privilege to continue working with our Board of Education and our dedicated staff and community to build on our achievements and enhance our programs.”
The district invites all community members to a welcoming reception for Dr. Byrne, which will be held at the district office at 9 KPC, Corona, CA, 92879 on May 16, from 4 to 5 pm. This event will provide an opportunity for Alvord community members to meet and greet their new superintendent and learn about her vision for the future of the district. For more information about the welcoming event, please contact Anabel Nuñez, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools at (951) 509-5009.
YEAR ROUND LEARNING, ARTS, AND SPORTS IN ALVORD
Currently, all public school districts in California are required to offer 180 school days. In minutes, the older the students, the more minutes they spend learning during those 180 days:
- TK-K = 36,000 minutes
- Grades' 1–3 = 50,400 minutes
- Grades' 4–8 = 54,000 minutes
- Grades' 9–12 = 64,800 minutes
Thanks to a massive investment by the State of California coupled with the development of a comprehensive Expanded Learning Program in Alvord, thanks to the foresight of the Board of Education, Alvord students can participate in a wide variety of curricular and extra-curricular activities and events over the course of the calendar year, including after school tutoring, sports, visual and performing arts, and other extra-curricular activities until 6 pm everyday, during Thanksgiving and Spring Break, Winter Recess, and summer. Over 30 full days will be added to the 2024-25 school year for any TK-8 student who chooses to attend. It's voluntary, but highly recommended. Whether a student is interested in sports (we are adding girls flag football, Color guard, Superstar Athlete competition and more to our middle school sports program next year and beginning sports in our elementary school sports program, also this coming year); or the visual or performing arts, or simply interested in developing and building peer relations and having fun, Alvord has everything a student needs to grow and explore their interests.
The goal of the program is to support academic achievement, social-emotional and interpersonal skills, enrich students' experiences in school, and build friendship with peers.
Stay tuned for more information about these incredible opportunities.

Sign Up for our After School Program
Alvord provides an extension of the school day and school year through its Expanded Learning Program. The focus is on academic, artistic, social, emotional, and physical development for students in elementary and middle school, including middle school sports. The program does not replicate learning activities that take place during the regular school day. Instead, it builds upon them. The program is offered everyday after school, as well as intercession, including summer and extended breaks for holidays. Learn more about it here. Or call (951) 358-1682, Monday - Friday, 9:45 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.
Participate in our Middle School Sports Program
Did you know we offer a full year of middle school sports? We kick off the program with Track and Field just a few days after the school year begins. Specific information regarding clinic and team tryouts will be distributed by each individual middle school site. The link to register to participate in any our middle school sports programs will be sent via Parent Square next week once our registration website goes live. All interested students will need to register and students trying out for any of our competitive teams will need to provide a sports clearance physical form completed by a medical doctor prior to their tryout. Forms can be obtained in the main office of any of our middle schools. Soccer follows the Track & Field season. Other sports include volleyball, flag-football, basketball and pep squad. Make sure your child is registered to participate. The website link is coming soon!
Activate you Parent Square Two-Way Communication
Parent Square is a safe and secure platform for school-to-home and home-to-school communication. All of our schools rely on it to keep parents informed. Instead of a one-way communication tool, Parent Square provides two-way communication. But to fully utilize the two-way feature of Parent Square, you have to activate your account. Sign in here and activate the two-way tool.
