The other day 2nd graders finished their Cycles of Nature unit and presented posters about an animal they chose to the 1st grade Explorers. Students had fun learning about these animal’s life cycles, and other fun facts! Something that the first graders can look forward to next year!

The Explorer's community got together this morning to watch and see if Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow or not this morning. The video linked here also shows how excited they were for the results!

Students printed out peak daily Vermont temperatures from Januarys going back into the 1950s. Their task was to see if they could determine if January temperatures are now higher in Vermont than they used to be in decades past.

National School Counseling Week 2024 National School Counseling Week 2024 (#NSCW24) is Feb. 5-9, 2024, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. National School Counseling Week is always celebrated the first full week in February.

To celebrate, we will have the following themes for students at lunch:

• Mindfulness Monday - Stop by our booth and try out some mindfulness tools
• Twizzler Tuesday - answer a question from the counselor and get a twizzler
• Wacky Wednesday - tell one of the counselors your best joke and get some candy
• Thoughtful Thursday - write a note to someone for us to display to the school.
• No Fuss Friday - learn some coping skills to help you on No Fuss Fridays!

Parents and guardians of children who would like to attend kindergarten at St. Albans City School this coming school year, please fill out the enrollment interest form. Link to form.

Charlie Brooks, Maple Run Unified School District Board member will be at The Traveled Cup, 94 N Main Street, Saint Albans on Fridays from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. Charlie will be available to discuss Maple Run goals and answer any questions or concerns about the FY25 budget.

For over a decade, World Read Aloud Day has called attention to the importance of sharing stories by challenging participants to grab a book, find an audience, and read-aloud! The global effort, created by the non-profit LitWorld and sponsored by Scholastic, is celebrated annually in over 173 countries and is all about bringing people together through the shared connection of reading aloud in all of our communities. We are encouraging adults at home to read aloud to their children, not just on World Read Aloud Day, but everyday!

8th graders, please provide a baby picture to be added to the 2024 yearbook. Send a high quality (large) digital copy to Mr. Craib mcraib@maplerun.org. Or, provide a paper copy of your picture to your teacher. It will be scanned and returned to you immediately. Thank you.

The yearbook committee is also looking for the following information to go next to the yearbook portraits:

Entries for both contests can be submitted directly to our local VFW Aux Post 758, PO Box 802, St Albans City, VT 05478 or they can be submitted to Team USA, St. Albans City School, 29 Bellows Street, St. Albans, VT. If giving to Team USA, please submit by 3/30. All entries must also include a completed entry form.

Ms. Bashaw's students completed a display showing sources of greenhouse gases and their chemical structures. Check it out in the hallway outside of the Voyagers' classrooms.

Both Ms. Draper and Ms. Bashaw located funds to purchase climate change books for their learning communities to soak in. They also found a way to purchase a duplicate set of books to place the school library for school-wide student access. There are eight altogether.
