The World of Work: Options and Possibilities!
During November, LYNX scholars explored a wide variety of career options including art, trades, aviation, law, construction, firefighting, robotics, engineering, hospitality, cosmetology, zoology, sonography, professional sports, living history interpretation, business administration, and facility maintenance!
LYNX Partners also helped prepare 10th graders for the workplace by teaching the importance of communication skills -- "How You Say It Matters!" and by guiding our seniors in English 12 through an informative "Mock Interview" experience. Thank you to all of our partners who generously devote their time and expertise to provide these valuable learning experiences for our students!
Student Voices: I Learned...
“Humans will always be involved in art, even if AI improves. Networking involves being friendly with other artists in your area. Even though Yemi excelled in art school, he initially underperformed during professional work. This experience helped me to better understand being a professional artist because I learned about ways to enter the career such as apprenticeships. I found the thumbnail drawings to be interesting.” --Naheem
“This experience helped me learn more about a career using an English degree and it gave me some good tips on how to start. I learned various tips on how to start the job and some basic fundamentals of the job. One tip was to just keep writing and setting up a daily schedule where you do various writing practice exercises. I was really surprised to hear about this career and just finding out that it actually existed made me realize types of jobs that can be used with an English degree.” –Jovana
“My two takeaways from this experience were the information about FAFSA, kits, and the variety of classes we can take. I was surprised that this school offers assistance in different categories like hair, skin, and nails. This experience helped me to overall better understand cosmetology. I’d love to get more information on eventually owning my own shop.” --Jazya
“I am so thankful for this experience! The answers to the questions were extremely educational. I have a new outlook when it comes to veterinary medicine, because you do not necessarily have to be a veterinarian when there are many other options within the field available that might interest you.” -Sibel
“What surprised me most about this experience was how much patience it takes to create high quality dishes. I learned that I must pay attention to every detail. Also, I loved learning more concepts for food presentation!” –Giselle
