TNSO LEADERSHIP LINKS
February, 2025
Message from the President
Greetings, DKG Sisters!
Oh, Delta Kappa Gamma;
In thy fold we gather;
Unity and Liberty,
Shall be our watch words ever!......................Annie Webb Blanton and Cora M. Martin
I recently visited with Beta Kappa Chapter for a very informative meeting on the benefits of exercise and other examples of self care. The chapter also inducted a lovely new member!
At the time I was invited, I asked the chapter president, Alva Cavnar, if there was anything in particular she wanted me to present. Her response was for me to talk about how DKG had changed my life. This response gave me pause. I am often asked to talk about the benefits of being a member of DKG, but reflecting on the ways that my membership in DKG had actually changed my life seemed much more personal and required a different answer.
I proceeded to tell my DKG story, which probably took way too long, and will be a message or speech for a different time and place. But before I began, I asked members of the chapter to share a few words on what they appreciated the most about DKG and what had prompted them to remain a member.
Some spoke of the fellowship among the members. Others stated that membership in DKG kept them connected to the Education Profession. Others mentioned support of DKG sisters during difficult times. One member mentioned the opportunity to participate in different DKG events. The new member talked about the classroom grant she had received, and how she wanted to be involved with a group that supports educators and education.
There were many different responses, but they were all In Harmony with the words of our Founders from a stanza of The Delta Kappa Gamma Song cited above. We are gathered into the fold of Delta Kappa Gamma - a Society of professionalism, support, and fellowship. We experience unity in our mission and purposes, but liberty in taking advantage of different opportunities that are offered to grow and to share our individual gifts and talents.
Are you sharing your DKG story? Look for ways to connect with other Key Women Educators and tell them about the potential life-changing benefits of membership in DKG. We would love to gather them into the fold!
In Harmony,
Marsha Brewer

Pam Egeler, Alpha Alpha Chapter, who lives in Elizabethton, has created an Amazon Registry List for anyone who would like to purchase items and have them sent to Elizabethton/Carter County. Amazon is still delivering to these hard to reach areas, and there is a coordinated effort to airlift items to inaccessible places. Pam is updating the list to include school supplies and other items children and teachers will need as school resumes. The link to purchase and donate to this area is: https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/2IFMV9T03WDTD?ref=gr_search_page_result
Misste Phillippi, Gamma Mu Chapter, who lives in Mountain City, has also created an Amazon Registry List. One of the schools in the area is serving as a resource center to distribute donated items to those in the Johnson County area. The list is being updated to include school and classroom supplies. What is DKGIEF? Submitted by Dr. Elaine Vaughan
DKG International Educators Foundation (DKGIEF) was established in 2020 as the result of a merger with The Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Foundation. The Foundation has awarded millions of dollars to support educational excellence through professional development, scholarships, and intercultural collaboration. There are nine funds distributed throughout the year:
1. Cornetet Award: Individual professional development - CIPD (members & non-members) & educational seminars - CSPD (members).
2. Educational Projects: Funding for projects to benefit children & education to members and non-members.
3. Educators Award Fund: Selected women authors receive cash awards for non-fiction writing impacting education.
4. Emergency Fund: Solely supported by donations, the Emergency Fund helps members with a major loss due to a natural disaster.
5. Eunah Temple Holden Leadership Fund: The ETH Fund supports superb speakers for international meetings and other leadership events.
6. Golden Gift Fund: The Golden Gift Fund offers professional life-changing leadership management seminar.
7. International Speakers Fund: Going beyond borders, the International Speakers Fund sends members as speakers into Society countries other than their own.
8. Scholarship Fund: International Scholarships are awarded annually to members for graduate study.
9. World Fellowship Fund: World Fellowships are awarded to non-member women educators who are continuing their education.
The Tennessee State Organization has many members who have received one or more of the funds listed above. In order to find guidelines, due dates, and activity participation for submission go to the international DKG website (www.dkg.org) and click on DKGIEF at the top of the page. When clicking on “Learn More”, additional information is provided for each fund.
Donations from the Society, members, states, chapters, and friends continue the support necessary for DKGIEF to carry out its mission and purposes. Gifts to DKGIEF are welcome at any time and are tax deductible in the United States and some other countries. If your chapter participates in the Maycie’s Chapter Excellence Award, points are awarded for donations given to DKGIEF. If interested in donating to one or more of the funds, additional information is provided on the International DKG website by clicking on “Donate” listed beside each fund.
Questions? Please contact Dr. Elaine Vaughan (elainevaughan77@gmail.com) for further assistance.
