November 15, 2024
Save the Date - Tuesday, November 19, from 5:30 to 7:00
Tanglen Staff Members and our PTO are hosting a Numberacy Night. We will have dinner, learn some new math games and strategies to help your children develop mathematics skills, and learn more about our school-wide Title One goals. Watch for a flyer with more details.
Preparing for Kindergarten?
Join us at Hopkins Schools’ Kindergarten Information Night! Bring your future kindergartener along to Hopkins High School on Thursday, November 21, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Meet our elementary school principals and other families, dive into Hopkins’ vision, and explore the variety of options we have for your child! It’s a fun, interactive event that gives you a sneak peek into the Hopkins Schools community. Registration is required, please RSVP today! We can’t wait to meet you and welcome our newest learners!
We Need Your Input on Cell Phone Policy!
Earlier this week, the district sent an email inviting families to share feedback on the new cell phone policy, required by recent Minnesota legislation. We’d love to hear your thoughts on cell phone use at school and how we can create a balanced, effective policy. The survey takes about 10 minutes and is open until 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 27. Check your email for details!
Please Leave Dogs at Home or in the Car
In our growing school population, we have students with varied needs we try to meet to keep them feeling safe and in a frame of mind to learn. With this in mind, we ask that you leave your dogs in your car or at home for drop off and pick up. As much as your dogs may love to see your children and their friends, the dogs' presence is causing anxiety and fear for some of our students when the dogs are on the sidewalks at school. Some students are not able to let their fear and anxiety go and carry those feelings into the school which is impacting their learning and our staff who need to work with the individuals to get back to a frame of mind for learning. Please help relieve the fear and stress in some of our community members. Leave the dogs in the car or at home. On behalf of the parents and caregivers of the students impacted, thank you so much!

Our Health Office Could Use New Donations
Tanglen Health Office is looking for donations of:
Boy/girl/gender neutral socks - size small or medium
Boy/girl underwear - sizes XS, S, M, & L
The school health office is in urgent need of socks and underwear donations to support students in need. These essential items play a crucial role in ensuring the comfort, hygiene, and overall well-being of our students. We are reaching out to our generous community members to help provide new, unused socks and underwear of all sizes. Your donations will make a significant difference, allowing every student to feel clean, comfortable, and ready to learn. Please drop off your contributions at the school health office during regular school hours. Thank you for your kindness and support!
WINTER GEAR DONATIONS NEEDED
Wondering what to do with winter gear that's too small for your students? Wash it and drop it off in the Tanglen office. We accept donations of gently used winter gear, especially:
Boots
Snowpants
Mittens/Gloves
Jackets in larger sizes (extra-large in youth sizes and small and medium in adult sizes).
If your student needs winter gear, please let us know that, too. Contact the Main Office at 952-988-4900.

Morning Drop-off Safety
We know that many families choose to drop off their children in the morning for school. With winter weather coming and darker skies at arrival, please keep the following safety directives in mind:
*Pull all the way around in the loop and do not stop by the front door. This will assure more cars can pull in to the safety of our drop off loop and not be waiting on Hillside.
*Make sure your child walks on the sidewalks and does not cut across the car loop. Our sidewalks are much safer than walking across where cars are moving.
*Stay off of cellphones while driving in the loop. We want to assure we are giving our full attention to a safe and orderly drop off of students.
*If you arrive after the start of the school day (7:50), please plan to park in the parking lot and walk your children into the school. Since no staff members are present after 7:50, this will help to assure safety for your child.
Thank you!
Jottings from Jim (Our Principal, Dr. Hebeisen)
It has been a busy week at Tanglen! Our third and fourth grade students performed an amazing musical for our community on Thursday. HUGE thanks to Angel Clark, our music teacher, for all of the time and energy she put into the performance. We are very grateful she is a part of our school community.
What moments of gratitude will you find this weekend to share with your children? I know you will find them...even through the tough times!
Enjoy the weekend ahead!
