January 13-17
Mercy School Institute 2024-2025 School Year
Principal's Corner
Assalam Alaykum dear parents, staff, and Mercy community,
We hope you enjoyed last Friday's snow day! Our campus is always beautiful, but it takes on an extra sparkle when it's blanketed in snow. It was a joy to see the children making the most of the wintry weather, building snowmen and enjoying snowball fights. Such days bring wonderful memories for our students and the community alike.
No School Reminder Please note that there will be no school for students this coming Monday. While students enjoy the extended weekend, our dedicated staff will be on campus, working hard to hone their skills and enhance our educational offerings. This day is vital for our teachers and staff to engage in professional development and planning, ensuring we continue to provide the best learning environment for our students.
Parental Choice Tax Credit (PCTC) Checks We are pleased to announce that the checks for the 2025 Spring PCTC have arrived. Parents and guardians are kindly requested to visit the Finance Office to sign for their checks. Your prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.
Parents’ Lunch with Students Next week, we will host a special Parents' Lunch. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to join their children at school for a meal. Please note, however, that for logistical reasons, parents will not be able to sit and eat with the students but are welcome to enjoy their own lunch in the designated areas.
Scholastic Book Fair Our annual Scholastic Book Fair will be held from Monday, January 27, to Thursday, January 30. This is a great chance for our students to explore new books and find new favorites to take home.
Elementary Reading Celebration Mark your calendars for Friday, January 31, for our Elementary Reading Celebration. Students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite book character. We look forward to seeing a variety of creative costumes and celebrating the joy of reading.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school activities. We look forward to seeing many of you at these upcoming events!

School Safe ID
We will be implementing a trial of a new visitor check-in system at Mercy School next week that will be both easy to use and enhance the safety of our students, faculty and staff. School Safe ID will require all visitors to present a valid state-issued ID.
School Safe ID will be managed through a kiosk in the front office. Visitors must scan their valid state-issued ID, and once approved, the visitor will be issued a badge that identifies his or her name and purpose for visiting the school. The system will only record the visitor’s name and date of birth. No additional date from the license will be entered into the system. Should a visitor not have a valid state-issued ID, he or she will not be permitted to enter the school without an escort. Visitors will not need to use the system should they simply need to drop off something in the main office.

A Note from Mr. Roger
During my time in law enforcement, it was my unfortunate experience to have handled many traffic fatalities. These incidents usually happen when a driver of a vehicle makes a mistake or has a lapse in judgement. It happens in an instant, yet lives are changed forever, both for the victim's family and the driver that is responsible for the accident.
Here on school property, the heaviest flow of traffic occurs during drop off and pick-ups. Not only are there a lot of cars moving around on the property, but there are also a lot of students, staff and visitors outside of the buildings. This is a parking lot that you are driving through, and it only takes a second for someone to pop out from between parked cars. I know that sometimes people run late and feel the need to rush to get their student dropped off or picked up. I'm sure you can imagine the delay you will encounter if you have an accident here at Mercy because you were feeling rushed.
In just the last few days since the return from break, I have witnessed people speeding on school property. I can't always catch up to those individuals, so I am putting this out to all parents. And this is not just due to my observations, but the observations of other parents here at the school. I want to remind you that the speed limit while on school grounds is 10 miles per hours. I also ask that you do not use your phones while driving. If your call is important, please use your device hands free. Speeding and distracted driving are some of the main causes of traffic accidents.
The safety of all our students, visitors and staff will always be our top priority. Please make it yours, too.
Thank you.
