Guiteras Transition Task Force Meeting Recap
Regarding transition to Colt Andrews
Administration will work with the staff at Colt Andrews to schedule a holiday event that allows students to visit the school, meet students and teachers, and serve as an icebreaker of sorts.
Administration will explore and determine how best to implement field trips and perhaps a field day at Colt Andrews.
We will invite Amy Bratsos (COZ) to our next meeting to discuss the possibility of expanding the program.
We will hold our next task force meeting on site at Colt Andrews so parents can have a tour of the school and meet Principal Kearns.
Administration will offer parents of current 4th grade students the opportunity to move to Rockwell for 5th grade based on enrollment.
Students who are going to Rockwell will be afforded transition events similar to students matriculating to Colt Andrews.
There will be four lunches and four recesses next year for students at Colt Andrews
Classroom teachers are moving to Colt Andrews. Specialists will be reassigned in the district depending on seniority and open positions.
A bridge program will be implemented for students prior to the start of the next school year.
Regarding a Celebration of 100 years of Guiteras
Explore a cookout or other event to celebrate the school, perhaps inviting the entire community, and alumni, to the school in the spring.
Explore fundraising opportunities to cover some of the costs associated with a celebration event and also to donate proceeds to middle or high school programs.

Federal Financial Support for Healthcare
Open Enrollment and Maintaining Health Coverage
HealthSource RI (HSRI), the state’s marketplace for individual and family health coverage and the only place where Rhode Islanders can access federal financial support to offset the costs of coverage, will launch its annual open enrollment on November 1, 2024. Open enrollment, running through January 31, 2025, is the time of year when people can select a new plan or renew their existing health coverage. To help spread the word about open enrollment, HSRI is hosting a series of information sessions. HSRI will also be attending community events around the state. Should you have any upcoming events you are hosting that could help Rhode Islanders learn about open enrollment and HSRI, please email Jordan Banick, Outreach and Communications Manager, at Jordan.banick.ctr@exchange.ri.gov
After the success of HSRI’s auto-enrollment and premium support program to provide thousands of Rhode Islanders transitioning from Medicaid a more seamless continuation onto marketplace coverage during the return of Medicaid renewals, HSRI is pleased to continue offering one free month of coverage to former Medicaid recipients meeting certain income criteria. In addition to the first month being free for some, the vast majority of HSRI customers are also eligible for ongoing financial assistance. About one third of HSRI customers pay less than $10 per month, and 86% receive financial assistance. To learn more about this new program through HealthSource RI, visit healthsourceri.com/transitions/.
Last, HSRI offers a comprehensive toolkit of informational resources in multiple languages, and recently created a pathway to health coverage in Rhode Island poster to help explain the different avenues for health coverage. A link to the digital version is here. HealthSource RI can also send posters to be hung or print versions of many of the items in the toolkit; please email Jordan.banick.ctr@exchange.ri.gov to make a request.
