A Note from Our Principals
Hello Waubesa Families,
As we approach spring break, we want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support and partnership. This has been a fantastic year so far, and we’re proud of the hard work and dedication our students have shown. We encourage everyone to take this break to rest, recharge, and enjoy time with loved ones. Whether you're traveling or staying close to home, we hope it’s a time of relaxation and fun. We look forward to welcoming students back on March 31 refreshed and ready for a strong finish to the school year!
Last week we practiced a Hold Drill for our monthly safety drill. A Hold is used when we need the hallways clear due to a medical emergency, facility issue, or a student issue. Students were asked to vacate the hallways, return or remain in their locked classrooms, and continue learning. In an actual event this would keep them safe or protect a student's privacy and would have a minimal impact on other students. The Hold Drill lasted approximately 10 minutes. Students and staff did and excellent job!
Before break, we have a few exciting events to share:
Thursday Afternoon: We will hold our monthly recognition assembly, where we will honor students receiving Creativity Awards.
Friday: We will wrap up the week with a special performance from the middle and high school choirs as they visit CEPS, WIS, and IMMS.
Spring assessments begin this week. On March 10, families received communication from Melissa Pfohl, Director of Teaching and Learning, regarding upcoming testing. This week, 4th graders will take the Forward Exam Social Studies portion on March 17 or 18. All other Forward Exam tests for grades 3-5 will begin after spring break (schedule below).
3rd Grade: ELA - April 3, 4, 7, 8 Math - April 1, 2
4th Grade: ELA - April 2, 3 Math - April 1, 4 Science - March 31 and April 1
Social Studies - March 17 and 185th Grade: ELA - April 1, 3, 4; Math - April 2, 3
How can you help your child to be ready to take the test? Both your child – and we – appreciate your support in using the following strategies:
Be sure your child is in attendance for the dates his/her class is scheduled to test. Please schedule appointments outside the school day.
Have your child get a good night’s sleep the night before testing – at least eight hours is recommended.
Have your child eat a nutritious breakfast including some protein on the days they are testing – research says this really matters!
Be sure your child has working headphones available for use with their device.
As always, if you have any questions or suggestions throughout the school year, we encourage you to use this form. We appreciate hearing directly from families when they have questions or concerns; thank you.
Thank you for your continued support. Soaring Higher Together!

Parent/Guardian & Emergency Contact Information
Emergencies can happen at any time, so it is crucial that school staff, especially Health Services staff, are able to get in contact with a parent/guardian or an emergency contact during the school day. Please take a moment to review your students' listed emergency contacts in the IC parent portal to ensure the information listed is the most current. If there are special circumstances where you know you will not be available for calls during a specific time of day or if school staff should utilize an alternate phone number such as an office line, please ensure that this is communicated and/or make sure that your listed emergency contacts are aware of this, as health office staff may need to contact them if your student is seen in the health office and parent/guardian notification is required. To make changes to your emergency contacts please see here for steps to update contact information. Thank you for our partnership in helping to keep our students safe and healthy!

A Message from the Village of McFarland - Vision and Mission Statement Community Survey
The Village of McFarland is in the process of drafting a new mission, vision, and value statements. We believe that your opinions, insights, and values are key to making sure these statements are reflective of what really matters to us all within the McFarland community. This is not just about goals and priorities, but about crafting a vision that truly represents who we are and where we want to go as a Village.
To that end, we hope you’ll take our Vision and Mission Statement Community Survey to offer your own insights and input. Whether your feedback relates to the spirit of the community, the issues you care about most, or what you hope to see in the future, we want to hear it all to help better inform the project. The survey will remain open until the end of March.
We have also scheduled an additional Village Visionaries Workshop, to be held in the Training Room at the McFarland Municipal Center on Thursday, March 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. if you would like to participate in person.
Please consider filling out the form or attending the workshop whether you live within the Village or not. We welcome all of the input from residents and our surrounding neighbors. Let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, and thank you in advance for your participation and support.
