From Mrs. Hubbard, Principal
Students had so much fun celebrating Read Across America Week! Throughout the week, students took part in the many ways we can celebrate reading and writing every day. The halls were decorated with reading-inspired themes like “Guess the Book”, “Bookstagram”, and “Look Who Got Caught Reading”. Each day students had a book ready at all times, just waiting for Mrs. Hubbard’s announcement to drop everything and read (DEAR). We were thrilled to host Jacqueline Davies award-winning author of The Lemonade Wars and many other amazing books. She helped students understand how a writer comes up with ideas, the elements that are needed to write a great story, and even the editorial and artistic process that goes into publishing a book. It was a perfect segway into our writing contest (be on the lookout for details coming home today). Our students are so excited to create their own stories. Finally, all classrooms were visited today by a guest reader, and it was a great way to end this wonderful celebration of reading and writing. A very special thank you to Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. Chase for all they did to make this a magical week for GWS readers and writers.
Congratulations to our Winter PeaceLeaders!
Peaceleaders are student mentors who are selected by their classmates to be the PeaceLeaders of the building. Their mission is to improve school climate and help our school community. We are so proud of the large number of candidates who delivered outstanding speeches today. It was a very close election and all the students were deserving of this honor. Our new winter PeaceLeaders are: Kenleigh Caruso, Ava Connell, Violet Keeler, Riley Kelley, Khloe Malone, Margaret Todd, Sophia Unger, and Harrison Waller.
