Message from the Principal 📝
Dear Kenwood Families,
It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Fall Family Festival last night! Many thanks to the Kenwood PTA for organizing a wonderful event, complete with a pumpkin patch, a s’mores station, crafts, music, an MPS food truck, and festive fall decorations. The weather couldn’t have been more beautiful, which was a relief after the storms that impacted Open House and Woody’s Welcome Walk! Our PTA volunteers are an amazing team and I know they’d love to have you join them. Check out their link above to learn how you can get involved in school-wide events!
We’re grateful that the District has allocated an additional classroom teacher to Kenwood as a result of the staffing adjustment process. This teacher will lead a multigrade classroom of first and second grade students to alleviate the large class sizes in both grade levels. The Kenwood team will be very intentional about creating a roster, balancing existing classrooms, and designing a schedule that permits all students to access their grade level standards and curriculum. I’ll share more details in the weeks to come with first and second grade families. The position is posted and I will begin to screen and interview candidates next week. We hope the new classroom opens in early November.
We look forward to seeing you at Conferences on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Remember that there isn’t school for students on Wednesday through Friday next week, Oct. 16-18. Our next Kenwood Courier will be released on Oct. 25.
We wish you a restful weekend. Thank you, as always, for your partnership and support of Kenwood Community School.

Staff Appreciation: Chili Bar for Conference Day
Please contribute what you can!
Throughout the school year, our community shows appreciation to Kenwood’s teachers and staff, often through meals coordinated by the PTA. In September we provided coffee & pastries for “Back to School.” This month we’ll provide a “Chili Bar” for Conference Day, Wednesday, October 16, so staff can pop in and grab food as their conference schedule allows.
These meals depend on volunteer contributions of either food, drink or funds. We need your help! Please either sign up to bring items via this link, or support the efforts with funds sent via Venmo to @KenwoodPTAMpls (please note Staff Appreciation).
Please bring all items to the school Staff Lounge by 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16. Questions? Please write to karinlolson20@gmail.com. Thank you!
North Star Donuts & Apple Truck: Wednesday, Oct. 23 🍩🍎
North Star Food Truck will set up at dismissal time on Franklin Ave. (between school and Kenwood Park) near Door 8 until 6:30 p.m. Donuts, cider and local apples will be available for sale, with a portion of the proceeds supporting our PTA. Please stop by!
