Message from Dr. Taylor
Dear Mustang Families,
Our entire staff would like to welcome our new and returning students to a new and exciting school year at Mundelein High School. We began our school year on Day 1 with a Principal Welcome Back Video and provided important information on how students can access Student Supports. On Day 2, we held our 1st of 3 assemblies, titled “We are MHS”, to provide students an opportunity to see themselves reflected in the voices & stories of our alumni. We thank our special guest, Mr. Trey Baker (‘21) for sharing his pathway and emphasizing our MHS Portrait of a Learner tenets which affirm student identity through schoolwide values, expectations and practices. Today, we are ending Day 3 with an activities & athletics fair during lunch periods and a Back-to-School bash this evening! You can find some pictures below of this week’s events.
Additionally, please take a moment to review our Student / Parent Handbook which contains a variety of helpful documents to assist you with some of our processes and procedures. Please support our efforts and communicate with your child the importance of attending school on time and each day, while also adhering to our school dress code (yes, we do have one!) along with our behavioral expectations.
Overall, we hope your student has had a great 1st week of school and we look forward to a great year ahead! Onward we go… with purpose!

Dress Code
Although we take great pride in a dress code that encourages self-expression, we do want to remind students of our student dress code policy as found in our student handbook.
- Clothing must cover all undergarments (waistbands and straps excluded).
- Fabric covering all private parts must not be seen through.
- Clothing that depicts, advertises or advocates the use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana or other controlled substances is prohibited.
- Clothing that depicts pornography, nudity or sexual acts is prohibited.
Attendance
Regular school attendance is required and necessary to develop the academic and intrapersonal skills needed for success. Students are expected to attend each class and be on time. Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance.
If your student is going to be absent from school, please call the Attendance Line 847-949-2200 ext. 1998 (Spanish) ext. 1999 (English) by 10:00 am.
What is Good Attendance?
Our MHS Attendance Committee felt it was important to create a simple and clear visual that students and families can reference to understand our expectations surrounding what good attendance looks like.
Lockers
With the increased enrollment in recent years, we have been unable to provide a locker for every student at MHS. Since many students do not use a locker, we are assigning lockers to students upon request. Please click here to request a locker.
2nd Chance Parking Permit Lottery
Applications for the 2023-2024 2nd chance parking permit lottery will commence on Thursday, August 24th at 8:00 a.m. and continue until Monday, August 28th at 11:59 p.m.
A very small number of 2023-2024 parking permits are available and a randomized draw will occur. Applications after the deadline will not be accepted.
Bus Notifications
Would you like to know when your student’s bus is going to be late? For Mundelein bus routes, Lakeside Transportation is using the Bus Bulletin notification system to notify parents and students when there are bus delays and schedule changes. For more information, or to sign-up and start receiving notifications, please visit: www.busbulletin.com/parents (Find Mundelein Area Schools when prompted for a district) *Note - This is managed by Lakeside Bus Company and not MHS.
Technology Use
Students will utilize technology to support their learning in class. Students are reminded to use their Chromebooks and cell phones appropriately at all times. For further information about technology use, please refer to the student handbook located on the District web page.
District Communications
We have created a new Facebook page for Mundelein High School District 120 - please visit us on our new page.
The only thing that will change is our digital location. We’ll continue sharing all the great news and pictures about our students and staff, any news updates and important school-related information. Please be sure to follow us on our new page, share the page with friends and “like” our page as well. We’re so glad to have you as part of our Mustang community.
