The month of May brings with it better weather and so many fun activities. Check out the pictures below for just a small sampling of some of the celebrations we had in the month of May.
Best Buddies Friendship Walk, MO: This is the leading even in the country supporting inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This year it was held in Kirkwood at Kirkwood Park.
Special Olympics Track and Field: Kirkwood High School helped out our friends over at Webster Groves High School this year and took on their track and field Special Olympics event since WG field was under construction.
Kirkwood High School Graduation: Our 2024 Seniors celebrated their hard work in a commencement ceremony held at the Chaifetz Arena on May 11. Congrats to all of our graduates!

Staff Spotlight
Therese Shain
Hello! My name is Therese Shain and I am a special education teacher at Tillman Elementary. I have taught for Special School District for 18 years and this is my second year at Tillman. In my role, I enjoy supporting students and watching them grow both academically and socially. I also enjoy working collaboratively with my SSD team and with the general education staff. In my free time, you can usually find me at the soccer field watching my sons or STL City play.
Lindsay Amen
Hi, my name is Lindsay Amen and I am the School Psychologist at KHS and Nipher 8th grade, plus I get to jump down in age to do KECC re-evaluations. This is my second year in Kirkwood and my 13th year with SSD. I was super excited to come to Kirkwood last year because I am a KHS graduate (Keysor and North also). I love my job because every day is different and even though I am behind the scenes a bit, I still get to make an impact on student's lives. I enjoy talking with parents to educate them and learn about their children. It's rewarding to look through old paperwork to see how far students have come since elementary school. In my free time, I love to spend time with my family and read. I have two girls with lots of energy! We love to go on walks, visit the zoo, and watch my kids learn new sports. I'm so glad I came to Kirkwood!
