Autumn Term -28th November 2024
Message from the Head of School
Dear Parents/Carers,
'It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas' at HJS as the decorations are put up, the carols are in full swing and all the children visited the Christmas HPPA shopping event today! In the school office we have our wonderful Christmas tree decorated beautifully by Wendy Glynn, a former staff member of HJS. A huge thank you for her exceptional decorating skills! It has been a very busy period for HPPA and I would like to thank them for the event today and all their immense efforts throughout the term. On fundraising, please remember that tomorrow is a non-uniform day in exchange for a bottle or a toy for the Christmas fair at HISN. I hope that lots of you will visit the joint fair at the infant school on Saturday 1st December (11am to 3pm).
On Monday we welcome a pantomime to HJS (oh yes we do!) which all children will take part in. This is also the first day that the post box is open for Christmas cards. Please ensure you write the full name and class on the envelope so it can be delivered. At the end of the week the children will attend our rehearsal at St. Mary's church in preparation for the concert on Monday 9th December. We will be walking to the church on both these days so please ensure your child has a coat and is in school uniform (no PE kits please).
The Spring term clubs booking system goes live tonight at 7pm. I am pleased to say we have another impressive range of clubs on offer and I hope your children enjoy these.
This week we also had a visit from Charis Penfold who is the Director of Education for Achieving for children. She visited both sites and commented; 'Thank you very much for your time this morning. It was a fabulous morning for me and I really enjoyed speaking with you and walking the school sites. Your school environment, indoors and outside sparkles, and demonstrates your attention to detail and high expectations. The learning in the classrooms was really purposeful, inclusive, ambitious and included all the children - which really impressed me.'
Finally, I am thrilled to announce that Miss Delaney welcomed her baby to the world last week. Both Mum and baby are doing well and we wish them all well.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Mr J James

HJS Chess Achiever
Congratulations to Nick has been selected with few other children from HJS to participate in the 9th PCC Schools (chess online) Tournament representing Hampton Junior School. Nick finished the online chess tournament in the top 3rd highest rated players with 24 points. Well done Nick.
HJS Music Achievers
This week Camille and Thomas (both in 6E) took part in the Richmond Music Trust Junior Brass Band concert. They discovered the Trumpet and Trombone through school and are now really enjoying being part of this fun ensemble. They’d recommend it to everyone!
HJS Football Achievers
On Friday, Miss Byway had the pleasure of taking a girls football team to a Premier League Primary Stars Tournament to win the chance to represent Chelsea in a Premier League tournament and play at the training ground in Cobham. The girls played incredibly well and led their group going into the knockout stages. After a 5-0 victory in the group stages, some wonderful goals and fantastic teamwork, the girls were unfortunately knocked out in the semi-final losing 2-0. They should be so proud of themselves because I certainly am.
Autumn Term Weekly Attendance Winners
The class with the best attendance last week was 4S.
The class with the least numbers of lates last week was 4P.
HJS Learning Support Assistant Vacancy
The Governors are looking to employ an experienced Learning Support Assistant to work in KS2. You would be working to support the learning of children under the supervision of the teacher. This may be in support of whole class learning, small groups or working with a child one to one basis.
We are looking for an experienced, flexible person with a caring nature who enjoys working with children. The candidate will need to be able to work as part of a team and able to demonstrate an understanding of health and safety.
Applicants will ideally be qualified to NVQ level 2 or above in child care; a current first aid certificate would be an advantage. Experience of working in an educational environment is essential.
Christmas Paper Amnesty
HPP will be supporting Cocoon, a charity that hosts a Christmas DAY event for around 55 care leavers. Care leavers are young people who grew up within the care system within Richmond, Kingston and Hounslow. They are now adults who are aged 18-25 years and without this event they would sadly spend the day alone. This is their 8th year and HPPA have offered to help this year by collecting donations of wrapping paper as they will be wrapping for around 50 adults and 5 children. The charity are totally reliant on donations of EVERYTHING (from turkeys to crackers!) and your kind donations mean we don’t have to raise funds to buy wrapping paper. Please see their website for more information and a huge thank you from all at Cocoon for helping.
We will have a box available in the school office for all donatons of wrapping paper (be this full or half rolls of Christmas paper) the week commencing 9th December. Thank you for your support.
