FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Edison Families,
High quality instruction doesn't happen by chance. It occurs because our teacher are constantly refining their craft to ensure that they are providing the most effective instruction possible for our students.
Our teachers have the double duty of ensuring that all students are learning content (Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, Social Emotional Learning), while also teaching a second language. Whichever language they are teaching in, our teachers know there are always students in the room who are not proficient in the language of instruction, so they need to ensure that the content is comprehensible and students are taught the language needed to express their understanding.
This school year, our teachers are working on refining their English instruction. We have fewer hours dedicated to teaching in English than an all English school so we need to ensure that our English instruction is targeted and effective.
To help us fine tune our instruction, we will engage in a Learning Round this week. Teachers from every grade will teach a lesson in English (planned by the entire grade level) and a team of teachers, instructional coaches and administration will observe the lessons to gain a better understanding of how instruction is going. This helps us see where we are as a school and what to do next.
If your child is in one of these classrooms, they will experience a fine tuned lesson with nine educators watching. All students will benefit from our findings, because it will help us see where we are strong and where we can improve.
I am in awe of the hard work, professionalism, reflectiveness, and courage of our teachers to engage in this work. I hope you are too. This is why Edison Language Academy is such a high quality school.
Sincerely,
Directora Ipiña

Parent Survey - Important!
Wednesday Parent Meetings - PTA
Each Wednesday, from 8:30-10:00 am, we have parent meetings in the Library. All parents are invited. Meetings are bilingual and there is a Zoom option at this link (although in person attendance is recommended). This week we will be hosting the PTA General Meeting. Come find out about what PTA is planning in the upcoming months.
Congratulations to our Young Storytellers!
For the last 10 weeks, six 5th graders worked collaboratively with a script writing mentor to create their own script. This past Wednesday, professional actors came in and performed their scripts. It was a joy to watch our students imaginations come to life! We have been partnering with Young Storytellers for over 10 years to bring this opportunity to our 5th graders. They will be back in Spring, so if you missed this show, you can catch the next one.
