After-School Classes and Scholarships
Fall, winter and spring terms: an exciting array of after-school classes are offered right at the school! Find the schedule of class offerings at https://www.irvingtonschool.com/afterschool/.
Classes begin right after school, which means you don't have to be at the regular 2:30pm pick up! Most of these classes are provided by outside vendors, are fee-based (scholarships available!), and are optional. They are organized by the PTA, though provided as a resource and not endorsed by the school or by the PTA. Registration opens Monday, September 9, at 6pm! An email will be sent at that time with links to registration pages. Many classes fill very quickly, so start planning now!
Scholarships are available and provided by the PTA! All students who qualify for free/reduced lunch also qualify for PTA scholarships. Because breakfast and lunch are free for ALL students this year, scholarships will be given to those who qualify according to the prior PPS criteria. Please see the application for details, which can be found here, on our website, or in the school office. We encourage you to fill out an application as soon as possible for better likelihood of getting your first choice. Each qualified student is eligible for a scholarship for ONE after school activity per term (one activity each: fall, winter and spring terms) for a total of 3 activities per year. Please email scholarship@irvingtonschool.com with any questions.
Tea with Mr. G. Next Week
I will be holding my first monthly "tea" next Friday (September 6, right after arrival), and while the focus will be on new families, all are welcome to attend and meet newer members of our community. Just come to the front door right after drop off, and you can head directly to room 108A.
Returning Connect to Kindergarten Signs
Thank you for displaying the Connect to Kindergarten Yard Signs through the summer! If you haven’t returned your sign, please plan to drop it off by the cafeteria doors Wednesday, September 4, at drop off or pick up. Contact ptapres@irvingtonschool.com if you need to make other arrangements for returning your sign. Please note: the “We Love Irvington School” yard signs are yours to keep and display all year!
Updated Symptom Form
Apologies: our back-to-school packets included an out-of-date symptom sheet. This sheet informs families and schools when students should not attend school due to illness. You can find the 2024-2025 form here.

Lunch Volunteers Needed All Year, and Sign Up for September is Open! <REPEAT>
This is perhaps the most fun way to consistently (or periodically) get involved in everyday life at the school. The cafeteria staff needs two adult volunteers every day in order to make the lunch service possible. Here’s how it works:
First, become a PPS approved volunteer here, which lasts for three years. Parents, caregivers, grandparents or other adults in your students’ lives are welcome to become approved volunteers.
After approval, sign up for shifts here. The site is live and ready for you to sign up for September! You will receive a confirmation email after you sign up, and a reminder email the morning of your shift
On your volunteer day, arrive at 10:50am (9:40 on early release days) to the front office, sign in (Karen or Eliza will help you if you have never done it before), and head down to the cafeteria where Rie will show you your apron and gloves and what to do! You’ll help set out the food, serve the students, and get to visit with your student while they eat if you choose to. You even get free lunch! The shift ends around 12:40.
Watch the weekly newsletter for alerts that future months are open to sign up.
Thank you past and future lunch volunteers for your help! Lunch service TRULY couldn’t happen without you.
