ESC - Region 20

The holiday season is upon us!! Things have been extremely busy around the region these past couple of weeks. I haven't had a chance to Thank all of you who attended the Fall Counseling Conference for making it such a huge success this year. All of the presenters commented on how much they enjoyed presenting and the great questions and feedback they received from you guys. So thank you again for attending!

Below is some information on upcoming training sessions that will be taking place here at the center. In addition to the sessions listed below, be on the look out for information for a zoom session I will be conducting on Thursday, December 19, 2019. This is a new option I am going to be trying this year to help get information out to counselors in our region without you having to drive into the center. I will be showing a brief slide presentation on HB 18 regarding districts having a Comprehensive Guidance program modeled after the new Texas Model Guide. In addition, I will highlight some upcoming training sessions, and then leave time for questions, answers, and topic suggestions for upcoming zoom meetings.

PREPaRE Workshop #1: Crisis Prevention and Preparedness (2nd Edition) Comprehensive School Safety Planning

This one-day workshop provides school-based mental health professionals, administrators, security professionals, and other educators the knowledge and resources to help them establish and sustain comprehensive safety and crisis prevention and preparedness efforts. With updated research and strategies, this workshop makes a clear connection between ongoing school safety and crisis preparedness. It also will emphasize the unique needs and functions of school teams and the steps involved in developing these teams, including a model that integrates school personnel and community provider roles. The workshop also explores how to prepare for school crises by developing, exercising, and evaluating safety and crisis plans.

The PREPaRE curriculum has been developed by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) as part of NASP’s long-term leadership in supporting and developing school crisis prevention and response capabilities at the local level. Participants will be provided with 6.5 hours of CPD credit through NASP.

We are five years into solid implementation of the Foundation High School graduation plan. Have you reviewed your plan and your offerings for coherent sequences of courses since the very beginning? Do your offerings and endorsements set your students up for success? Do your pathways and endorsements align with LMI (Labor Market Information) and offer capstone industry certification for students? Are you transitioning to the new Programs of Study (POS)? There is so much to consider when setting your students up for lifelong success. Join us for this interactive workshop where we help you to review your district profile and make adjustments for student success.

NOTE: Bring a fully charged laptop and cord to this workshop and your current master schedule and endorsements with you.

I am pleased to announce that we will have special guests from UT Austin and Code.org providing information regarding Computer Science updates in the state that will impact your students and district. They will also be providing breakfast and a treat for attendees. If you have a CTE Director or administrators interested in the topic, please welcome them to register also. We will adjust the schedule a bit with breakfast available after 8 am and the workshop running from 9-noon.
