Cardinal Awards
STUCO
Hello Cardinal Nation, This is the Stuco reporter Axel Mejia. This month we will be having Our biggest event of the year. The Glow Dance! It will be held on May 17. Which means it will be on a Friday. It will be a glow in the dark dance. The dance will be from 7-9 pm. Every DCMS student is welcome. We want everyone to come. We will make this dance the best you've had. Other than the dance happening We will be having Beautification day on May 1st. We will be writing positive notes on the entrances of the school. We will also be planting flowers and picking up trash all around the school. So thank Stuco for all their hard work. Since this is the last month it also means this is my last time writing a newsletter for DCMS. Thank you all for an amazing year.
Have a great summer!
Odyssey & Voyagers
With the school year rapidly coming to a close, the teachers on the Odyssey team are still hard at work designing interesting and engaging learning opportunities for the Odyssey students. Mr. Varner’s science students will be learning about the scientific method by completing a science fair project. Students will experiment and present their findings to their classmates.
Ms. Camacho’s Connect classes will be doing some coding by animating their name or word of their choice. Then the final project will be designing their own Dream Vacation Brochure. Students will be given a blank google doc and they will create from scratch a tri-fold brochure. This will be used as a “final” that demonstrates all their skills they have learned in google docs and working with tables.
Ms. Figueroa’s match classes will demonstrate the knowledge they’ve obtained throughout the year by completing the end of the year FastBridge. They will also continue to work on using graphs to compare data.
Miss Johnston’s social studies students will complete a Unit 6 assessment on May 8th. After that, students will learn about several key events of the early part of the 20th century such as the 1918 Flu, World War 1, The Roaring Twenties, The Great Depression. Finally, students will learn about the disaster known as “the Dust Bowl” which greatly affected many Kansans and permanently changed farming practices.
To wrap up, we have a special message from ELA teacher Ms. Rodriguez, “May has come upon us quickly and we are all looking forward to the summer break, but before we leave 7th grade ELA will be finishing up with a fictional short story called “The Last Dog”. It is a story about a dog but unlike most stories about dogs this one will not make us cry. We will also be taking the last Fastbridge test of the year and hopefully no one cries because of it either. Have a wonderful summer.”
