B.R.I.D.G.E.S. Book Club
The B.R.I.D.G.E.S. (Becoming Readers to Ignite Daily Greatness in Students) Book Club is a book club geared toward African American and Hispanic children in grades 2-5. Book Club members must be students enrolled at Takoma Park E.S. or Piney Branch E.S. All students, within the grade range and enrolled at TPES or PBES, are invited to participate. Unfortunately, enrollment is limited to 30 students. The book club meets on Saturdays at TPES. The meetings are about two hours in length. During the meetings, the children will receive a light lunch, play a game or do a project and discuss the book being read. The books and any materials for projects are free and passed out to students at the Saturday meeting. The Book Club will feature books with main characters who are minorities. To register your child, please go to the Bridges Book Club website here THE BRIDGES BOOK CLUB . Registration is open from September 15th through September 30, 2024. All accepted students will receive an email confirmation of their acceptance.
Volunteering at TPES
We are prepared to offer volunteer opportunities for lunch and recess. You can sign up to volunteer by filling out this Google Form. Ms. Samikia East will confirm your volunteer day & time for your planning purposes. Do not plan to come to volunteer before receiving approval from Ms. East. Before volunteering all volunteers must complete the volunteer training using this LINK prior to volunteering. Volunteers will be responsible for supporting children with opening food items, cleaning up spills and monitoring children. Unfortunately, volunteers will not be able to help without proof of volunteer training.
If you want to volunteer in your child's classroom you must contact the classroom teacher. The same volunteer training must be completed for classroom volunteers and field trip chaperones. Please use the link above to access the training. Classroom volunteer opportunities will begin in October.
Town Hall Meeting for Kindergarten Parents
Please join me for a Town Hall Meeting to discuss the TPES response to incidents that involve students who become dysregulated. The meeting will be held virtually via Zoom at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. A link will be sent that afternoon to access the meeting. This is a repeat of the information provided last year and will focus on kindergarten students. All parents and guardians of TPES students are welcome.
