State Report Card

Waynesville Elementary Assistant Principal Patrick Clark distilled information from the 2023-2024 WLS Report Card. Schools and districts in Ohio are evaluated in these areas: achievement, progress, gap closing, early literacy, graduation rate, and college, career, workforce, and military readiness.

WLS earned an overall rating of 5 stars, which means our district “significantly exceeds state standards.” Our schools were measured and individually rated as well. Here are the overall ratings for each school:

Waynesville Elementary - 5 stars
Waynesville Middle School - 3.5 stars
Waynesville High School - 5 stars

Mr. Clark highlighted specific areas for improvement and areas of achievement and added that not everything we do is measured in the State Report Card; for example, the social-emotional efforts made by teachers and staff are not reflected in this report. Student Board of Education Representatives

WLS Student Board of Education Representatives, Blake Amburgy, Belle Dimbath, and Aiden Larsen, updated the Board on recent school activities and events. Highlights included holiday activities at our Elementary, the Supper Club at our Jr./Sr. High School, and the district-wide Spartan Canned Food Drive.

Waynesville Hometown Expo

Dr. Jim Byers shared news about the 2025 Waynesville Hometown Expo, which will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at our Jr./Sr. High School (middle school gym).

Here are the highlights from Dr. Ison’s Update:

Transportation Audit - The Warren County Educational Service Center Transportation Supervisor reviewed our bus routes, and adjustments were made to strengthen best practices and enhance safety. Dr. Ison added that two enhancement projects, cameras on buses and new routing software, will be implemented at the beginning of the 25-26 school year.

WLS Community Survey - The results from the fall 2024 community survey will be presented at the January 13, 2025 Board meeting.

Dr. Ison discussed these agenda items, which were approved by the Board:

2024-2025 Bus Routes Authorization for the Superintendent or his designee

Ski Club for the 2024-2025 school year and camps/clinic for 2024-2025

Mrs. Huber provided the monthly financial reports for October and November 2024. Note: In November, we made the final payment on our debt for the construction of Waynesville High School, which opened in 1998. This means WLS is no longer collecting tax millage for that debt.

The Treasurer’s Reports were reviewed and approved.

The Board of Education will meet on January 13, 2025 at 6 p.m. at the WLS Performing Arts Center for a regularly scheduled business meeting. This is the yearly organization meeting, and the 2025 meeting dates will be approved. January is also Board Recognition Month.
