Random Student of the Week
Dane Pelkowski
Dane Pelkowski is a sophomore going to Dryden for 2 years. His favorite thing about Dryden is “the people, I was welcomed into Dryden with open arms. I remember my first day at Dryden, I was nervous I wasn’t going to make any friends, but Logan Romain stepped in and was my first friend”. Dane likes to fish at Lake St. Clair and the local pond, also he likes to work out and collect shoes. Along with that, Dane loves to fish outside of school. He was raised outside. Also, he remembers being introduced to fishing by his grandpa, he likes to work on his triceps and legs in working out mainly. Dane’s brother, Drew, introduced him to sneakers in 2018, and he has had a sneaker collection ever since. Dane's dream career is to work on engines or work with the DNR. His plans after high school are “to work on cars with my brother, I mainly want to work for General Motors and follow my dad's footsteps, but I want to pursue my fishing career, as I know a lot about fishing, fishing has been involved in my life since I was born.”. He also wants to thank all of his teachers - Mr. Lohrmann, Mr. Tresnak, Mr. Anderson, Mrs. Garcia, Mrs. Logan, and Mrs. Torok - for believing in him.

What Seniors Wish Their Parents Knew
Editor's Note: Senior Seminar students concluded their semester course by listing what they wish parents knew about graduating seniors and their final year of high school. We'll feature their ideas here.
by Matthew Hickmott
Number 1: Move At Your Kid's Pace
Do not overwhelm your child with “when are you gonna apply to colleges”. They might be doing that on their own and so you may have a different idea when work needs to begin and end.
Number 2: Stay informed
Teenagers like to switch up their mind throughout the day and throughout the week. So, stay informed with your child, like if they are still applying to this college that they were before. They will know more about this than you, so don't nag them on about everything.
Number 3: Listen To Your Kids
Do not take over everything, they know what they want in college. All you need to do is listen and help from time to time.
Number 4: Do Something
Don't just be sitting on the couch, thinking that your kid has this college thing down, they may need your help and maybe are too scared to ask since you have not done anything to help them.
Number 5: Help your Child Financially
This does not mean just to give them money, but also be done with your taxes done on time for their FAFSA and for loans.
Number 6: Let your Worries be Separate From Your Child's
The hardest part about college for parents is to let their kids go off to college. So, don't make your kids worry about something that won't affect them.
Number 7: Be Aware of The Deadlines
While your student may know about the deadlines, just remind them when something is getting close to the deadline, and if they say they turned it in don't bug them about it anymore.
Number 8: Do not start looking for college too early
Kids need to have good grades, and need to do activities they love. But by looking at college early, their stress will increase and by the time that they get into 11th and 12th grade their mind may have changed from 9th grade.
Number 9: Look Out For Bad College Advice
There is tons of good advice out there, but there is also bad advice, so distinguish between the two. The blogs on college admissions are a great source.
Number 10: Invest In The Time, Not Just Your Money
This is a great time to bond with your child before they leave off to college, but don't nag them too much. Just spend time with them.

Varsity Bowling
by Lily Finnigan
On Monday, the Varsity bowling teams had a scrimmage against Imlay City at IC Strikes. The boys would start slow with a 139 baker game. Luckily, they were able to get back on their feet and bowl a 174 game, but it wouldn’t be enough to beat the Imlay boys. Going into five on five games, the boys would roll a 813 team game with 4 out of the five winning their point. The boys would put together a 880 final team game, but fell just short. They would lose 18-12. Best efforts include the team game of 880, Michael Hickmott with a 203, and Connor Wolff with a 199. The girls would come out with two very nice baker games of 179 and 146, but the Imlay City girls would counteract those scores with 179 and 157. Girls struggled in their five on five games, which resulted in a 24-6 loss. Best efforts include the team bakers of 179 and 157, Lily Finnigan with a 162, and Chloe DeLoy with a 159.
The next day, the varsity bowling teams would scrimmage North Branch at Gerlach’s Bowling in Lapeer. The boys had a rough start with baker games of 122 and 127, but would manage to win one of their bakers. In the first five on five game, every boy would win their point. They had a 829 team game led by Sean Finnigan with a 211. Going into the final game, they would need just one boy to win their point. Four would win their points, although it was a close match. The boys would win 19-11. Best efforts include the team game of 829, Sean Finnigan with a 211, and Michael Hickmott with a 181. The girls would come out with baker games of 117 and 143 which would earn them 4 points. They would be just behind going into the five on five games. Girls would win the first game led by Mikayla Fleming with a 170 game. This put them at 19-11. They would go on to win an ugly match by 30 and grind out a 19-11 victory. Best efforts include the team baker of 143, Mikayla Fleming with a 170, and Kaitlynn Knuth with a 132.
On Sunday the 18th, both teams would make out the drive to B’s Bowling in Flint to bowl in the Regional Tune-Up Tournament. The boys would start off with an 824 game led by Sean Finnigan with a 186 and Connor Wolff with a 180. Eventually, they would slow down before finishing with a 183 baker game. Their efforts would qualify them in 6th place. They would go against Atherton in match play, where they would be eliminated by Atherton’s games of 192 and 188. Best efforts include the 824 team game and 183 baker game.
The girls would start slow, but shoot a 704 game led by Lily Finnigan with a 185, and Raeshell Richardson with a 164. The girls were consistent in their baker games with games of 133, 122, 138, and 134. This would put Lily Finnigan in 2nd as an individual, Raeshell Richardson in 4th as an individual, and the team in 2nd. Going into match play, they would defeat Genesee. In the semi-finals, they would defeat Byron with games of 156 and 115. In the finals, they would play Atherton where they would roll games of 123 and 130, but it wasn’t enough to beat Atherton’s games of 177 and 157. Best efforts include getting second place in the tournament, Lily Finnigan and Raeshell Richardson getting awarded all-tournament team, and the 704 team game.
After this week, the boys would end their regular season 10-1 (8-0 conference) and the girls would finish off 7-2 (5-1 conference). This week, both teams will be back at B’s Bowling in Flint for team regionals on Friday and Individuals on Saturday. Good Luck to all of our bowlers!
