Principal's Weekly Newsletter
March 29th, 2025
Dear Parent(s)/ Guardian(s):
Please forgive me for being a little later with this week's letter, but I believe that I have an acceptable excuse for my tardiness-- I just returned from a ceremony at the Fairchild Nichols Memorial Library. Two of our 6th graders were recognized as the winners in the Women's History Month Essay Contest. State Representative David Rutigliano presented Shaan Chhablani and Aishwarya Maddukuri with their award certificates. They have of course earned the spotlight in the "Final Photo" at the bottom-- well done Aishwarya and Shaan !!
In our insert photo this week you see our "Thirsty Travelers", students in our Life Skills Program who traverse the hallways of Madison and sell snacks and beverges to staff members who are grateful for a "pick me up" treat. This operation has evolved from being a mere "coffee cart", to something which offers much more-- it is a great opportunity for our students to hone some business and customer service skills.
Thank you to all of you who participated in the PTA's Online Auction last weekend. The PTA exceeded its fundraising goal of $5,000. This is obviously great news as the PTA always puts any money raised to exceedingly good use as they help to enhance the experiences of our Madison students.
Ramadan will conclude this weekend with the celebration of Eid Al-Fitr. I have learned from my Muslim students that the date is determined by the sighting of a new astronomical moon. I want to express best wishes to Muslim students and their families as they conclude the month long observance of Ramadan. You may or may not know that Eid Al-Fitr will be a school holiday beginning next year-- the date for that will be March 20th, 2026.
Announcement:
The Stepping Forth (graduation) Ceremony for our 8th graders is now set for Monday, June 9th, at 4:30pm. Prior to that, the 8th grade dance will be held on Friday June 6th, and the day after Stepping Forth (Tuesday, June 10th) will feature our 8th Grade Awards Ceremony and a family breakfast. It’s hard to believe, but these dates will be here before we know it.
March Madness Update:
No-- I'm not looing to recap the scores of the "Sweet Sixteen" games last night. I'm talking about our Book Tournamnet. As we speak, students are casting their votes in the "finals"-- on Monday Ms. Dwyer will announce whether this year's "Best Book" is The Hunger Games or Heroes.
Reminders:
Our 6th Grade Field Trip to see a Bridgeport Islanders Hockey Game will take place this Wednesday, April 2nd.

We will transition from March into April next week. There have been hopeful hints of better weather, with today featuring a veritable summer preview. We all know though that New England/the Northeast can present weather "mood swings" this time of year. Even at this very moment, my son is at Yankee Stadium enjoying temperatures in the 70s while my daughter in Burlington, VT is shoveling out from a 5 inch snowfall. Sunday will be much cooler here in CT, so I hope that you are able to get outside today to enjoy this ideal weather. Have a great weekend !!
Take care,
Peter Sullivan
