Ms. Pierce's Art Class
Per Ms. Pierce: The pictures below were created using the Foreshortening Technique. The Foreshortening technique is used to depict an object or human body in a picture to produce an illusion of projection or extension in space. The pictures below demonstrate the hands and feet appearing closer to you than the rest of their bodies. Students traced their own hands and feet, then added bodies & any background they wanted to fall into.

Science Fair
North Brandywine students have a new Canvas course called “Science Fair!” This shows students the steps to complete a project to enter the North Brandywine Middle School Science Fair which will be held during the school day on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 (Snow Date- Thursday, January 16, 2025).
Our school science fair is a feeder fair for the Chester County Science and Engineering Fair (called the Rorke-Adams Fair for students in grades 6-12) which will take place on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. The top five projects from each grade may move on to the next level. (NOTE- only two team projects for each grade may move on).
The student's first step is to have an adult complete the Science Fair Interest Form. This is STEP 1 in the Science Fair Canvas course or follow this link to complete the Science Fair Interest Form with adult help.
After completing the Interest Form, students may move on to STEP 2 in the Science Fair Canvas course, which is also linked here > My Research Plan.
All research plans must be approved before starting!! Also, several International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) forms must be completed before actual experimenting begins, if you plan to move on to the county-level fair.
Please see the Science Fair Canvas course for all details. Contact Mrs. Canning with any questions at canningj@casdschools.org, or you can send a message through the Science Fair Canvas course.
GOOD LUCK!!! Let's represent CASD!

Documentation Required for Absence, Lateness or Early Dismissal
A) A note from a parent is required following any absences. The sending of a note, in and of itself, does not make an absence, lateness or early dismissal excusable.
B) Absences for three (3) or more consecutive days may require a physician’s excuse.
C) Parents/guardians and students should submit written excuse within three (3) school days of the absence.
D) If a written explanation is not submitted within this period, the absence becomes unlawful.
Cumulative Lawful Absences
A) After an accumulation of ten (10) days of absences in one school year, a physician’s excuse and parental conference may be requested.
School Response to Unlawful Absences
A) First Unlawful Absence: Parent/guardian is sent notice via regular mail, phone call or email of unlawful absence.
B) Second Unlawful Absence: Parent/guardian is sent second notice via regular mail, phone call or email of unlawful absence.
C) Third Unlawful Absence: Parent/guardian is sent third notice of unlawful absence by certified mail providing “official notice of child’s third illegal absence.”
Act 138 or 2016 provides that parent/guardians or persons in parental relation, having charge of any child of compulsory school age who fails to comply with the provisions of this act regarding compulsory attendance may be fined:
A) Up to three hundred dollars ($300) per offense plus court costs for the first offense • Up to five hundred dollars ($500) for the second offense
B) Up to seven hundred and fifty dollars ($750) for a third and any subsequent offenses • Or be sentenced to complete a parenting education program
'C) And in default of payment of such fines, costs, or completion of the parent education program by the person so offending shall be sentenced to the county jail for not exceeding three (3) days.

Technology Information
As we continue to embrace technology as an integral part of our educational environment, we want to ensure that your child’s school-issued device is well-protected. To this end, in leu of our previous TIF, we are offering optional insurance coverage for these devices to help mitigate any potential costs associated with accidental damage, loss, or theft, outside of any warranty covered repairs.
Why Device Insurance?
School-issued devices are an important tool for learning, and while we strive to take great care of them, accidents can happen. Device insurance provides peace of mind and financial protection by covering repair or replacement costs due to unforeseen circumstances.
What computer insurance covers
A stand-alone computer insurance policy through Progressive includes coverage for perils (laptop theft, vandalism, fire damage, and more) and unexpected accidents such as:
- Water damage (including liquid spills and submersion)
- Damage from dropping or stepping on your laptop
- Power surges due to lightning
What laptop insurance doesn't cover
Laptop insurance doesn't cover everything. Some exclusions are:
- Computer viruses
- Wear and tear or corrosion
- Software issues
- Blatant neglect
All policies and claims are the sole ownership of the Parents and Guardians. Complete details and common questions can be found at the following link: https://www.progressive.com/electronic-device-insurance/computer-laptop-insurance/
Lastly, for anyone that has already paid a TIF for the 2024-2025 school year, the district will be issuing those families a full refund.
Sincerely,
CASD Office of Technology
YMCA - 7th Grade Initiative
The YMCA of Greater Brandywine is excited to offer the 7th grade initiative as a free YMCA membership to all 7th grade students. Step Up, Step Out, Make a Difference -YMCA 7th and 8th Girls Empowerment Group
Step Up, Step Out, Make a Difference (SUSO) is an Empowerment, Self-Care, Leadership afterschool program for girls in 7th - 8th grade that Arts Holding Hands and Hearts (AHHAH) launched last year. This year the program is held at the Coatesville Y on Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30. Every girl who is part of the program receives a free membership to the Y.
Originally, the program was for girls in 8th-12th grade. Last week the girls in the program shared shared with their director how 8th grade is one of the most difficult years and to help transition into 8th grade, it would be very impactful if the program was offered to 7th grade girls. This program is girl driven. They talked and we listened, so now the program is for girls in 7th -12th grade.
Attached is a flyer for the program with the dates.
