Greetings Washington Families,
Welcome to another edition of the Washington Weekly! We are gearing up for a week of festive spirit as we celebrate 100 Years of Washington School. We hope that your child(ren) will join us for Spirit Week.
Wednesday, February 21: Decades Day! Which decade will you represent? CLICK HERE for ideas!
Thursday, February 22: 100 in Some Way! How can you show 100? Show us your creativity!
Friday, February 23: WES Spirit Day! Wear your Washington Wizard Wear OR blue and yellow!
On Friday, we have a special Cultural Arts Performance from The Beast, sponsored by our fantastic PTA! Then on Saturday, everyone is invite to join us as we celebrate our first 100 years!
Join us in our newly renovated gymnasium for a family-friendly program starting at 1:00 pm. It's a time to honor the remarkable history of Washington School, paying tribute to our founders and alumni. We have an incredible lineup for the hour-long program, including special guests such as Michelle Lanier, the great-granddaughter of one of our founders, Del Burns, former WCPSS Superintendent and Washington Principal, and Robert Green, a talented former Washington student who has made waves in the arts world. Plus, performances by our own Washington Students and Enloe GT Magnet High School’s a cappella group, Crescenloe!
This momentous occasion is an opportunity to celebrate our past, present, and future. But we need your help to make it truly unforgettable. We're still looking for volunteers to assist with various aspects of the event. Keep reading to find the link for volunteer sign-up - your support is invaluable!

Are you or someone you know interested in part-time/hourly employment? We are looking for an additional Before Care Assistant to support our Before Care program from 7:00-8:50am daily. Hours and days of the week can be flexible. Job responsibilities include: supervision of students, planning and facilitating activities/learning games, etc. Click below to apply or share the link with anyone you know who may be interested in supporting our school community.

Congratulations to Rida in second grade! Rida has secured FIRST Place in Visual Arts Primary Category at state level of the PTA Reflections Contest. She will be representing North Carolina at the country wide level now. We are so proud of this amazing Wiz Kid!
Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) Information Session 💻
Are you interested in learning more about Single Subject Acceleration for your student? Our AIG Teachers, Ms. Casey and Ms. Edsall, will be hosting a virtual meeting Thursday, February 22nd, 2024 at 5:30pm. Can’t make the meeting? That’s okay! All info about SSA can be found on our school’s AIG Site.
Washington GT Magnet Career Day Guest Speakers 🎤
In an effort to help students make connections between their gifts and talents, electives and future careers we will be holding a Career Day on the last day of our 3rd quarter electives! On Thursday March 21st, we will be looking for parents and community members to share a variety of different careers with students. If you would be interested in being a guest speaker-in person or virtually, please complete the form below and someone will be in contact with you! We can't believe that Washington will be celebrating it's 100 years!! We have many fun and exciting things planned for this day, but we need help to pull it off!

Wizard PTA Updates ✨
Math & Science Night Volunteers Needed!
We need parent volunteers to make Math & Science Night a success! Volunteer roles include help with set-up and clean-up, and assisting with an activity during the event. Volunteering as little as 30 minutes is incredibly helpful! Please email Laura at lab.walton@gmail.com to help.
Come out for an evening of hands-on learning March 7th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm!
- Inspect real rockets from The NC State High Powered Rocketry Club and make your own!
- Create calcium alginate pearls and chromatography butterflies with Meredith College’s Chemical Society.
- Learn about live animals from White Deer Park.
- And so much more from NCSU Genetics Club, NCSU Physics Society, NCSU SUM Club, and Forge Lego Robotics.
- Mr. Martin’s Math Games will return, as well as The Egg Drop Challenge and a Paper Airplane Competition.
Jessica’s Food Truck will be back and the PTA will be selling snacks, water, and juice. Wizard Wear will also be available from House of Swank.
