Thank you to all students for creating a successful school picture day! Students should now have their Student ID Card and can purchase an ASB sticker for $40. With an ASB sticker, students are admitted for free to all home game FOR THE YEAR. Students without an ASB sticker will be charged the $4.00 admittance fee to events.
Students can purchase ASB stickers in the Grade School Office. The ASB sticker is provided at no cost for students who qualify for free/reduced lunch.
***For students who missed picture day, would like a re-take, or did not pick-up their ID card, Lifetouch will be back on October 10th!
Yearbook Pick-Up
The '23-'24 Yearbook is ready for pick-up. Students had an opportunity to pick-up yearbooks during homeroom on Thursday 8/29. If a student has not yet picked-up their yearbook, they can see Mrs. Maehara or Mrs. Childress in their office. Graduates of the Class of '23 can pick-up yearbooks in the Grade School Office. Thank you to all students and staff who created such a great collection of CHS memories.
Lunch Detention is Back!
CHS holds a daily lunch detention for students who have been marked Unexcused Absence (UA) or Tardy (UT). Students are expected to attend every class, every day, on-time. This is aligned with our commitment to building skills for the workplace and adult life.
- Because students are already on campus, unexcused tardies cannot be excused. If a student is arriving to school late and is excused by their parent/guardian, their tardy will be marked ET.
- If a student needs to leave campus early, they must be excused by a parent/guardian and check-out through the Grade-School office. Leaving class without checking-out is considered an unexcused absence (UA).
In lunch detention, students are expected to:
- Arrive with lunch by 11:56am.
- Quietly read or work on schoolwork (detention is silent).
- Turn in phones.
- Engage with Mrs. Maehara or other staff to improve the behavior.
We celebrate the vast majority of Cardinals who were on-time to every class this week!
Class Schedules and Graduation Requirements
Student Schedules:
The CHS Admin and Counseling team have been working with students to adjust class schedules. While most student schedules are set, minor changes may be made (when space allows) until this Friday, 9/6. When creating schedules we do our best to provide students with classes of choice, while also creating balanced class sizes that optimize conditions for teaching and learning. If a student is still seeking a schedule adjustment, they can swing by the Super Cool Office (near the Commons) and talk with Mrs. Maehara or Mrs. Childress to see what is possible.
Graduation Requirements tab in StudentVue and ParentVue is Under Construction:
Students and parents may notice a change in StudentVue and ParentVue that better reflects updated ODE and CHS graduation guidelines. This includes the combining of CTE and Fine Arts (FA) credits beginning with the Class of 2026 and the incorporation of Personal Finance and College/Career credits beginning with the Class of 2027. Please do not be alarmed by the change as the update is still underway.
Quick Updates
Fall sports are off and rolling and Cardinal athletes started their seasons competing at a high level! To stay up to date with schedules and results, visit Corbett's OSAA page at https://www.osaa.org/schools/231 .
Football: The Cardinals journeyed across the river to open up at the Columbia High School Jamboree. The jamboree gave the Cards a great opportunity to put the pads on and test systems. The Corbett Community looks forward to welcoming new Coach Jacob Phillips to Jeff Lucas Stadium at the home opener this week.
Next Up: Friday 9/6, 7pm vs. Central Linn.
Volleyball: Corbett filled The Nest with competitive energy as they hosted their Jamboree on Thursday, 8/29. The Cards proved they can compete with teams at all OSAA levels playing tough with Estacada (4A) and Hood River (5A).
Next Up: Tuesday, 9/3 vs. Creswell (3pm) and Estacada (6pm)
Women’s Soccer: The Cards played their home opener on a beautiful afternoon at Jeff Lucas Stadium. The team competed hard and stayed with it against a tough Santiam Christian squad. We are proud of players who are taking on the challenge of new positions to help the team!
Next Up: @ Yamhill-Carlton on 9/3, 6:15pm
Team Spotlights...
Cross Country: Thank you to the CHS community who came together to ensure that the Cardinals made it to the race on Time! 10 Cardinal athletes ran at personal record pace during the MSY Relays. Had this been a race instead of a relay 3K personal bests would have been set by: Elaia, Vivienne, Flynn, Thatcher, Caiden, Zevi, Gavin and Enrique and 1500 personal bests would have been set by Natalie, Vivienne, Elaia, Thatcher, Flynn, Caiden, Enrique, Oren, Gavin and Zevi. Coach Rondema is proud of all athletes for persevering through the heat and the way they represented CHS with competitive spirit and good sportsmanship. Great job Cardinals!
Next Up: The Ultimook on Saturday, 9/7.
CHS Men's Soccer: The Men’s Varsity and JV soccer teams opened their 2024 season at home against the Taft Tigers on
August 30th. The Varsity team defeated the Tigers 6-1 in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
Four players scored in the home opener. Striker Rowan Wilburn logged the first two goals of the game followed by one from Midfielder Johnny Gonzales. Team Captain and Midfielder Jayson Minkser sent an 18-yard bending strike to the top left corner of the net. Sophomore relief player Sayvin Williams’ quick thinking led him to score his first varsity goal after the Tigers’ goalie fumbled the ball inside the goal box. Gonzales scored one final time in the last five seconds for a thrilling finish to the game!
For the JV matchup, in the 90 degree heat, the Cards made a strong showing but fell to the JV Tigers 8-3. Midfielder Masen Munez had a breakaway goal and freshman Striker Eli Newcomer cleaned up a bumbled ball to put the Cards in striking distance 4-2 at the half. The JV Cards never gave up despite the scorching field temperature. In the final minutes of the game, Striker Milo Bueno showed resilience to score the Cards’ third goal. Both teams demonstrated great effort under new Head Coach Seth Payton, Assistant Coach Simon Leone and JV Coach Skyler Stone.

Oregon HS Equestrian Team Opportunity
As seen in the CSD Newsletter...
Ohset athletes learn more than just equestrian skills, but life skill as well. To be involved 8th grades can be grooms and 9th- 12th grades can be athletes.
The groom position: Helps set up patterns and other equipment for athletes to use and helps athletes to clean and prepare their horse to show. Grooms can ride before or after practices without coaching. ( It runs a risk of impacting their high school eligibility if they are coached). A groom does not have to have access to there own horse
Athletes: Compete in events such as: sorting, working rancher, roping, daubing, showmanship, in-hand trail, dressage, English EQ., western Eq., reining, in-hand obstacle relay, bi-wrangle, Canadian flags, barrels, poles, fig. 8, key hole, individual flags and much more! Athletes compete in three district meets to qualify for state and then potentially regionals. All athletes are required to have their own horse or access to someone else's horse they can ride and haul to events
Once Coach Tackett gets a first meeting date set up with the school we will announce those details. For now please reach out to Coach Tackett at corbetthorses@gmail.com or 503-319-6302.
