Spartan families,
Spring is on the horizon and we are all ready for Spring Break:) With the weather improving, our students have been able to enjoy recess outside. This is always a mood-improver!
If you haven't noticed, we are in the last three months of school! It seems like it has flown by. There are a lot of events happening from here till the end of the year. Please stay connected and involved.
Tomorrow is our first day of TELPAS testing. The second TELPAS test is the following Monday, March 10th. Students who are Emergent Bilinguals in grades 2-5th, will take two tests to measure their mastery of the English language in the areas of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. These scores will be available at the end of the year. Their scores will not reflect a pass or fail grade, but rather a level of mastery from beginners to advanced high. Please see your child's teacher for more information.
For those who are already thinking about our other state tests, STAAR assessments for students in grades 3-5 will take place in April.
Thank you for supporting our efforts with morning arrival and afternoon pickup. We have some new signs that remind you to pull forward so we can unload students safely, a reminder to not block the crosswalk with your car and a reminder to use the crosswalk. It is important that we model safety for our students. A friendly reminder that if you have to get out of your driver seat to assist your child or your child has to exit your vehicle on the driver side, curbside drop off is not for you. These circumstances require you to park in the parking lot, allowing you more time to unload, and have your students use the crosswalk.
As we approach all of these testing dates, please reassure your child that they are ready to show us their best effort! Our students and staff have worked hard this year and we will spend the next few weeks making sure all students feel prepared. If your child is experiencing any type of anxiety about the STAAR, please reach out to their teacher.
The next Coffee with the Principal is on Monday, March 10 at 3:15. Our guest speaker will be
Joey Fechtel from The Austin Center for Grief and Loss. He will be sharing information about grief and loss in general, the various life events that can cause grief aside from the death of a loved one, what to expect from grieving children, as well as some of the common challenges faced by families. Come join us!
Spartan Fun Run
We will have our annual Spartan Fun Run during grade level specials time on Friday, March 14. You are invited to attend to watch or participate along with your child. Parents will only be allowed in the Fun Run area after checking in at the front office. Remember you will need to show your ID at the door before entry and at the desk to receive your guest pass. If you do not have ID, we will not have time to have private and personal conversations, you will just not be allowed entry. Please help us make this a fun day and bring your identification!
Due to limited space, only the parents of students running at that time will be allowed to stay in the area. Here is the schedule for the Fun Run:
Kinder: 10:15
1st grade: 9:20
2nd grade: 8:25
3rd grade: 11:10
4th grade: 12:35
5th grade: 1:30
