Wednesday, April 26th:
Thursday, April 7th:Friday, April 28th:Dear Cardinal Family,
Driving home yesterday, I felt like many of you driving to school on Wednesday. I decided to avoid the highway and take a shortcut up Olentangy River Road. This was brilliant because I could just cut over Wilson Bridge Road and avoid the potential snarls of rush hour on 315 and 270.
I knew I was in trouble early on in my genius plan. I had completely forgotten the bridge of Wilson Bridge Road was down to one lane. As you might imagine, my shortcut landed me in a big loop that dumped me right back on 315 and 270.
I recognize that during TW's construction, we will be disrupting routines. Whether it's closing down the front door or equipment blocking driveways (coming next week by the field house), we will do our best to communicate and provide clear detours. A new bridge is not nearly as exciting to me as a new school or new field house, but I hope they'll all be valuable additions to the community. As always, I appreciate your patience and your communication when things aren't going as expected.
I hope you have a great weekend and Go Cards!
Sincerely,
Pete Scully
Principal
Thomas Worthington HS

** ACADEMIC UPDATES**
What Teachers and Staff are Saying
The 3Rs - Cardinal Expectations at TWHS
There are three general behavior expectations at Thomas Worthington High School: build Relationships, show Respect, and be Responsible.
We define build Relationships as “to cultivate belonging”. It is our goal that 100% of our students feel connected to at least one adult that they trust enough to go to when they really need it. From our morning greeting as each student enters the building, to each teacher connecting with each student, to our Wednesday homeroom lessons, we strive to create an environment that is so welcoming - all are inspired to learn.
We define show Respect as “use appropriate language”. We work towards being mindful of the words we speak and the immense power they have on ourselves and others. We learn that the words we say, along with the time, setting, and location have an impact on others.
We define be Responsible as “to attend and be on time to class”. We are intentional about the value of showing up, being on time, and being present for ourselves and others.
Freshman Mentor Online Applications & Teacher Recommendations Due Friday April 28th at 3:20 pm
Attention Sophomore and Junior Parents/Guardians:
We are now accepting applications for Freshman Mentors for the 2023-2024 school year. Freshman Mentor responsibilities include: easing the transition for all incoming 9th grade students, providing academic and organizational support, and attending a variety of social extracurricular activities to engage with the freshman class.
Students can access the online application now through their respective Schoology pages for the Classes of 2024 and 2025 or by clicking 2023-24 Freshman Mentor Application. Students are also required to get three current teachers to complete online recommendations for them. Both the online application and the teacher recommendations are due by Friday April 28th at 3:20 pm.
Please note current mentors must re-apply for next year. Priority consideration will be given to returning senior mentors and rising juniors. First time senior applicants may be screened through an interview process. Please know that not all applicants will be accepted into the program, so we encourage students to put extra time and thought into their application. If students have any questions, students should contact Mallory Tecklenburg or Alyssa Craft.
Worthington Robotics Team - Cultivating a Culture of STEM
The Worthington Robotics Team (WorBots 4145) is proud to announce they are going to the world championships yet again, continuing their legacy from 2018 and 2019! This team of 36 students from both Thomas Worthington and Worthington Kilbourne High School competed fiercely at three regional competitions across the Midwest, rising to the top at Buckeye Regional and Greater Pittsburgh Regional. They won the prestigious Impact Award, the most coveted award in the FIRST program, celebrating the team’s immense impact by spreading STEM and business opportunities throughout the Worthington community. Their success was not limited to business and outreach only, with their robot Eclipse reaching the semifinals at Greater Pittsburgh Regional. Through these achievements at competition, and their continual support of 3 elementary and 1 middle school team, the WorBots have truly exemplified their motto of “Engage, Inspire, Impact.”
Watch their Impact Award video on YouTube and see their robot in action on the Blue Alliance!
