A Message of Gratitude and Celebration
Juneteenth marks a powerful moment in our nation’s history—June 19, 1865—when more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, enslaved African Americans in Galveston Bay, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom. This delayed justice reminds us not only of the painful legacy of slavery but also of the enduring resilience, strength, and hope within Black communities.
As we recognize Juneteenth, we honor the struggle for liberation and affirm our ongoing responsibility to build systems where freedom, equity, and dignity are realities for all. At MESD, we remain committed to creating spaces where our students and staff are seen, valued, and empowered to thrive. This day is both a time of remembrance and a call to action—to reflect, to learn, and to continue advancing justice together.
