A Word From Mrs. Loor
Dear Franklin Families,
On Friday, the entire school was able to enjoy the final dress rehearsal for this year's play, Seussical Kids! I was so impressed with all the performers as well as everyone who worked behind the scenes. Every role was important since after all, "a person is a person no matter how small." It's always amazing to witness our children transform into singers, dancers, actors and stage crew members. The costumes were absolutely fantastic! A HUGE, HUGE thank you to the parent directors, producers, volunteers, and the Wharton directors for making this production spectacular!
As I have shared in the past, every year, an exceptional educator is recognized for their ability to inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities. I am proud to announce Mrs. Megan McCue, 3rd grade teacher, as Franklin's Teacher of the Year. Last year, the district also began a new tradition of recognizing an outstanding member of our support staff. Congratulations to Ms. Lesley Padilla, one of our most hardworking instructional aides, as this year's support staff of the year recipient. We are so lucky to work with such talented and caring staff members!
Have a fantastic week!
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor

Are you enjoying the color images on your laptop or desktop? Well, you can thank Mark Dean for that! His work at IBM led to the development of the first PC color monitor. Dr. Dean is a computer scientist and engineer. He is the first African-American to become an IBM fellow in 1996. He led the team that developed the world's first gigahertz chip at the turn of the millennia.

Read Across America
Franklin’s Read Across America celebration will run March 3 - 7. We have many fun activities planned, including surprise guest readers, a theme week, potatoes dressed as book characters, a book swap, and a Vocabulary Parade! Please see the flier for our schedule.
All week long, we’ll be featuring Book Character potatoes in the library. Any day, bring in a potato dressed as your favorite book character! (See pictures below.)
During library classes, students can participate in a book swap. If you’d like to donate books for the exchange, send them in with your students any day during the week of February 24-28. Our goal is to send every student home with a “new” book!
Our Vocabulary Parade will feature students dressed as words! (staff pictures below) Students should come to school dressed in their word designs for a whole school parade first thing on Wednesday morning. Please make sure students have school-ready attire packed with them or under their word costume.
