SCHOOL UPDATES AND NEWS
Cell Phones are not allowed in MLC classrooms or anywhere else during class time. They will be locked in a safe zone during each class by the classroom teacher. We will be very vigilant in keeping our classrooms phone free at MLC in order to keep learning distraction free. Please make sure you are discussing with your student prior to the first day. We will have students and parent/guardian sign a no cell phone agreement at conferences for grades 6x12.
LUNCH!
Lunch and Breakfast is FREE for all PPS students this year!!!
Off Campus Lunch Policy for 7x12
Teachers will share the official contract during conferences.
7th-12th: There are two ways to sign out:
Using a phone or device with QR code located at the front doors
Paper sign out in the front office.
Students will not need to sign back in due to teachers taking attendance after lunch.
Students must be back on time in class. Food must be finished before returning to class. If a student is not able to make it back to class on time or complete their lunch, the privilege will be revoked.
6th grade: Students will not have off campus lunch until teachers authorize they are ready.
When they do receive this privilege, students will sign out on a clipboard in their homeroom classroom.
Morning Drop Off and Afternoon Pick Up
Here are our procedures for drop off for the 2024-25 school year. Some routines have changed from last year, so please make sure to read all the way through before the first day for a smooth start.
MORNING DROP OFF:
Kx12
School Start Time: 8:45 am
Breakfast opens at 8:30 am
The main front door will open at 8:40 for students/families to enter.
Class time will start promptly at 8:45.
Entry Doors: Kx5 Front Doors by Glisan/6x12 Front Doors by Hoyt
Kindergarten Families will drop off and pick up students at the classroom. (hand to hand)
We will be clearing the halls of parents/guardians by 8:50 to start the day.
1x3 families have the option to come inside for drop off or use the blacktop car line.
We will be clearing the halls of parents/guardians by 8:50 to start the day.
We encourage 6x12 students to be dropped on on Hoyt Street to keep the blacktop open for our 1x5 students.
Breakfast will be served for those K-12 interested at 8:30 in the cafeteria. Students will enter through the cafeteria door. Once the student has eaten breakfast, they will then return outside to wait for the main door to open for the day. ONLY students eating school breakfast will be allowed in the cafeteria. Breakfast ends at 8:45. Exceptions will be made for weather determined by admin.
STUDENTS SHOULD NOT ARRIVE TO MLC BEFORE 8:30 a.m.
Unfortunately, we do not have enough staff to monitor all areas of the building and outdoors before those times. Teachers and staff are preparing for the day. We want to make sure all students are safe and in designated areas where there is adequate supervision.
Where do I park?
Street parking is the only option in our neighborhood. The back lot is reserved for staff with very limited (and assigned) parking.
How to drop off on the black top:
Please pull all the way up to the front doors/the line before students exit your vehicle.
Stay in the line to await exit upon Tony's signal. Line cutting is a safety issue with younger students close to the area.
Please do not use the back staff parking lot for drop off. This is our staff parking with assigned and very limited space. We want to make sure our educators are able to park and get into their classrooms each morning in time to prep for each day of learning.
PICK UP
Kx5 release time on normal days is 3:15 pm.
6x12 release time on normal days is 3:30 pm.
Kx12 release time on Early Release days (once a month) is 12:45 pm.
PICK UP (cars using the black top)
CAR LINE PICK UP 1x5
Students that are picked up by car in the parking lot will be in lines by designated cones/teachers.
Car pick up students cannot go to the playground/court while waiting for pick up.
Drivers will need to stay in their cars. A staff member will come to you for your child's name/with your child.
Stay in the line to await exit upon Tony's signal. Line cutting is a safety issue with younger students close to the area.
WALK UP PICK UP 1x5
Please come to the north side of the pick up line for walk ups (opposite of the cars). This will keep our car sight line and congestion clear.
There are zero lot spaces available in the back to spare for family parking. Please do not use the back lot for pick up/drop off in any way. We need to make sure our staff can park without any issue to educate students!
Kindergarten students will be picked up in the Kindergarten classroom. Doors will open at 3:10 pm for parents/guardians to wait outside the classroom.
6x12 Students will be released to exit the building on their own. They can be picked up on Hoyt, Blacktop or leave on their own. Students will need to leave the building at 3:30 pm unless they are involved in a school club or event.
Schedule Change Policy 6X12
Schedules are created with student needs first as well as what is a state requirement.
Schedules that will be changed at this time are only:
- Those missing a class period.
- Those missing a required class.
- Those double scheduled for a period.
If any of these issues are found, the student will need to let their Metro/Retro/Homeroom teacher know, who will then reach out to the counselor.
Students that have other issues they would like to discuss with the counselor will need to wait until the factors above have all been addressed and completed. When that opens up, there will be a google form that students are able to complete for an appointment with the counselor to discuss their issue.
Students will need to remain in their scheduled classes unless there is an adjustment made through this process.
PTSA News
WELCOME to the 2024-25 school year!
The past few years have been quite a wild ride and we’re looking forward to a more “normal” year full of opportunities for our students to thrive. We plan to continue supporting MLC’s beloved traditions, but we also hope to offer new ways for our community to come together, grow together, and to flourish. After a period of post-pandemic rebuilding and an unprecedented year, we’re fired up and ready to hit the ground running!
Representatives from our board will be tabling during conferences and we hope you will swing by to say hi and pick up our annual MLC Family Guide. You'll learn more about how the PTSA supports our students, our teachers and staff, as well as our families. We’ll share some of the ways you can get involved, from organizing and helping with events to getting out and fundraising. And you’ll get a glimpse of many of the MLC events and traditions that have stood the test of time as well as a bit about the history of our remarkable school.
We also encourage you to visit MLCPTSA.org for information about our monthly meetings and details about our activities. To receive informational emails and event reminders from us, become a member or sign up for our email distribution list. And, of course, be sure to always check out the PTSA section in the weekly MLC News & Notes email newsletter for the most timely updates!

PTSA MEMBERSHIP: Renew or Join!
True to our name, all parents, teachers, and students are invited to become PTSA members. Please note that “parents” is a broad category that includes caregivers, guardians, grandparents, and friends of MLC.
With schools facing challenges like shrinking budgets and lack of educational equity, the PTSA’s role is more important than ever as we work to foster connections and support critical school needs. Join us to grow your village and advocate for our students and community! To become a voting member for only $12, sign up or renew your MLC PTSA Membership HERE (search for MLC under the Local Unit).
Becoming a member does NOT mean you have to volunteer or attend meetings. But do stay tuned for our 2024-25 MLC PTSA Volunteer Opportunities form to learn more about how you can become involved!
VOLUNTEER: Parking Crew
The MLC PTSA hosts parking in our school lots for Timbers and Thorns weekend matches and we need volunteers to take money and direct people to spots. This is an easy and fun way to raise money for our school. Shifts are short and we will be there to teach you everything you need to know. Bring a friend or come make new ones! Sign up HERE. Questions? Contact our coordinators, Tammy or Chenney.
PTSA MEETING: Join us the second Wednesday of each month
Wednesday, September 11, 6:00-7:30 *please note new schedule*
