EMERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL MISSION
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE 03/21/25
Dear Emerson Families,
We have reached the end of this marking period and we want to wish everyone a safe and restful break. We hope you all take this time to recharge and enjoy some well-deserved time off.
When we return, we will begin the fourth and final marking period. These last ten weeks of the school year are crucial, and we look forward to a strong finish for all our students.
For those of you traveling, please have safe journeys. We look forward to seeing everyone back and ready to learn.
With Eagle Pride,

Cell Phone Policy Reminders
Dear Parents,
We are writing to clarify the school's policy regarding cell phone and earbud use during the school day. To maintain a focused learning environment, we are strictly enforcing the following:
- No cell phone use is permitted during school hours: AWAY FOR THE DAY.
- No earbuds or headphones are allowed, including wearing them around the neck.
- (Exceptions are made for a few students with documented medical or anxiety needs.)
In the Classroom: (AWAY FOR THE DAY)
- Teachers will remind students of the policy at the beginning of each class.
- If a student uses a device, it will be stored securely until the end of the hour.
- If a student refuses to hand over their device, administration will be called to confiscate it.
During Lunch and in the Hallways: (AWAY FOR THE DAY)
- Administration will confiscate any cell phones or earbuds seen during lunch.
- Administration will also monitor and confiscate devices in the hallways during passing periods.
- Teachers are asked to remind students of the rules in the hallways, but not to confiscate the items themselves.
We appreciate your support in helping us create a distraction-free learning environment for all students.
- Just a reminder to please take a moment and join the Emerson PTSA! Below is the link.

March is Reading Month
Thank you to those who have donated books for our Book Blast! We will be accepting last minute donations for our Book Bash on March 31st - donations will be collected during 1st hour and the Book Blast will start 2nd hour. We could especially use: mystery/suspense, sports, romance, manga, graphic novels and non-fiction books. Every student will be able to choose 1 book to keep and will get two raffle tickets.
Here are some of the sets we are raffling off:
8th graders are coming on March 31st. 7th graders are coming on April 1st. Students who are absent will be invited to come later in the week and then finally all students will be invited to come back after we are all done to pick out a second book as supply allows. Library Crew students got a sneak peek and were able to make their selection this week:
We finished our Book Chat for The Girl Who Drank the Moon with a special final meeting and we will start a new book after spring break. Our new book was recommended by a student and voted on by our current group: The Murder Game by Carrie Doyle. All students will have a chance to sign up for this book chat group which will occur over our last marking period. There is room for 30 students.
“What if your best friend and roommate killed a teacher at your prep school? Or what if he didn’t do it, but he’s being framed, and you’re the only person who can save him? What if you aren’t sure which it is?” - Author website
“A character-driven murder mystery that will leave readers guessing until the big reveal.” - School Library Journal
“A murder mystery with a likable hero.” - Kirkus Reviews
“Doyle strikes a good balance between a twisty whodunit and a lighter adventure story.” - Booklist
Book Blast!
The Emerson Library accepts donations of new and used books, games, legos, puzzles, craft supplies (including new and used greeting cards), leftover decorating items such as streamers and balloons, and items that could be used as student prizes and giveaways (students loved the beanie babies that were donated this year!). We also would accept individually wrapped snacks for book discussions.

Emerson Student Handbook & Code of Conduct
- This has been updated for the 2024-20254 school year.
- It can be accessed HERE.
- Please partner with us by reminding students that cell phones and electronics should be "AWAY FOR THE DAY"!
- All students must keep bags and backpacks in their lockers.

A few key things to note:
The Livonia Parent Advisory Committee (LPAC) seeks parent representation from each Livonia Special Education Program. Parent representative volunteers have a child/children with a disability(ies). The LPAC also provides advisory input on matters regarding improvement of Special Education services within our school district.
Our Facebook page shares information of interest to our families and students.
Here, you will find electronic flyers for programs and events geared toward kids!
We hope that you enjoy the many offerings from around our great community!
If you have a program that you'd like to advertise, please email your flyer to Stacy Jenkins at sjenkins3@livoniapublicschools.org for approval. We follow a set of guidelines for approval and are only able to accept flyers for non-profit organizations that benefit our local children.
Enjoy!
Emerson Clubs
Emerson Middle School has several clubs where students can connect with their peers, learn a new skill, or simply hang out with friends. We've had a volleyball club, robotics club, GSA club, walking club, Pokemon club and homework club. We would love to offer something for everyone! Our club list is always growing, and we're always open to new ideas. If your student has a dream club in mind or if you'd like to be an awesome advisor, let us know! Joining a club is a great way to make new friends, learn new skills, and have a blast!
